*Stands up*
Hi... I'm Lindy and I'm an alcoholic...oops, wrong meeting *cough* I mean musician
*Everybody now*
"Hi Lindy"
Jokes aside.
I've been into music and musical instruments my whole life. My dad was a musician and he gave me my first guitar at the age of 5. Unfortunately (due to circumstances) I only started taking an active interest in music when I was 13. I'm now 22 and still as lazy as ever.
I've never really given my fingers the chance to feel pain yet, so I reckon you could call me the laziest musician you'll ever meet.
Yeah, I joined here all thanks to Norio and his wife (thanks guys) and I really like it here.
Hopefully being part of this community will inspire me to put my camera down every now and then and dust off my guitar. Sacriledge! I hear you say. :-[
Yep... it's a scandal to let my babies gather dust like they do.
My babies consist of my dad's Yamaha Acoustic and my newly found love... the electric.
My electric isn't the greatest... It's a cheapie my man bought for me (last year nogals) for my birthday... needless to say, I've only handled her a few times. :-[
I've never found it easy to play the acoustic as my hands are quite small and I find it uncomfortable to hold her at the neck. So I've restrung her so that she's now a left hand guitar... Reason, I'm supposed to teach Gareth how to play... nope, I haven't even tuned her yet.
Ok... that intro's long enough.
I'll def be posting some pics of my babies for you all to gawk at (ok, we all know that's a joke) ?
Oh yeah... I also play a bit of keyboard every now and then, and no... I don't sing. Wish I could though... don't we all :-\
    Welcome to our humble abode....
Hope you have fun and learn a lot.

My oh my, your intro sounds so familiar! ?

    GMTA
      Hi Lindy! Welcome!

No need to be so self-effacing. The important thing is that when you do play, you have as much fun doing it as is humanly possible (as with anything).

Camera? You a pro? I'm just getting into it a bit myself with my wife's Pentax K10, iST and collection of lenses (we fight over the macro). I'm still very much on the "auto" side of things though, and have been warned against taking the cameras apart and modding them. ?

Is Gareth your better quarter? Word of advice - string that guitar back as a righty and make him learn to play it that way. Lefty guitars are a distinct minority, with only a few (usually more expensive) different instruments to choose from. Many sinister players have learned as dexters and there is no reason why not - in fact there's a good argument that it's better to play backwards as it puts the stronger, more agile hand on the fingerboard. Also, unless you do a proper left hand conversion on the guitar, it will never play in tune strung backwards.

There ya go... here for half an hour and already you have some (unasked for) advice ?
Wowzer, thanks for the great welcome!!!
Alan, I'll definitely keep that in mind. I don't want to damage the guitar either, so thank goodness I left the strings looser than usual. Not sure what how they may affect the neck.
Nope... I'm no pro wrt photography. I'm still studying and have only been into it for a year now.
Yes... Gareth is my significant other.
Word of advice... do not open your camera what so ever... no... don't even think about doing. I'm the kind of person that just loves taking things apart and putting them back together, and I've had to restrain myself once I learned that cameras can be "modded"
The sensor is extremely sensitive and you could end up damaging your camera. Gotta laugh at the macro comment, as I'm also busy hunting for one. Been using extension tubes for a while now, but it's a royal pain in the beehind.
Another word of advice... stick to the auto or program settings on your camera until you fully understand how your camera works and how to work your camera. Reason I say this, is that you'd rather capture that moment, than be messing with settings and miss the moment ?
I like this forum... it's got the best of both worlds here. Mkay... no where's the bar?
Alan, check out www.photoclub.co.za. It's where folks like Lindy and Tanya hang out and share advice, piccies and so on ?

Check out www.MacroShots.co.za. It's a new site we started to promote Tanya's macro work. Already got a buyer for one of her shots! It's awesome stuff.

          Lindy, welcome welcome welcome ?

You sound like lots of fun and we definitely need to get more girls posting around here. Just to give us ego-driven boys some balance ?
Myself and Tanya frequent the photo club site, and it's a great source of information, help, friendly people, and lotsa k@k praat ? I'd definitely recommend going there.
Thanks Norio... must say, that Macro site you guys set us looks lovely and I can't wait to see the "final" result. Yeah... female member's are generally scarce on the forums, don't know many female musicians though :-/ But don't worry... I'll keep you all in check mkay ?
Welcome Lindy! If you find the bar in this place PLEASE do let me know, I think you have to be part of the secret club to gain access ☹

Hi Lindy and welcome! The longer I'm this forum, the more I recognise some common traits, myself included: guitar, photography and a desire to take things apart! Must be genetic.

Yeah. I really need something else to do with my time! Had a quick look anyway, but there was no glamour photography (pics of nekkid women) immediately apparent, so AFAIC, as a photography site, it's a washout. ?
Check out www.MacroShots.co.za. It's a new site we started to promote Tanya's macro work.
Is it supposed to be just the one page? Looks good so far.
Just to give us ego-driven boys some balance ?
With balance, would we really be boys? ?
Hi Lindy .. welcome welcome welcome! Where did you say that bar was? Drinks are on me tonight ?

welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy it.

p.s: it has nothing to do with having small hands, its all in the mind.
hope we can inspire you to pick up the guitar and have fun!!!
Hi Linda and Welcome. Glad to have you here. ? ?

                          Thanks ?

Yup. I'm supposed to add the next image today but, in order to do that, I have to code a little. So I just put it up as 1 page last week to get some hits. 200 visitors from StumbleUpon already -- nice!
Sjoe, seems I missed out on some conversation last night. Blooming power supply... she is broken :-/
LOL @ Riaan... starting to sound like a genetic trait ?
Haha Alan... you looking for some nudes, go to www.deviantart.com you'll find plenty there... they even have some feti$h too.
Thanks Manfred... My acoustics neck is a little wider than my electrics neck, thus making it uncomfortable and difficult for me. But ja... just being here yesterday made me amped to play last night. (No, I didn't play last night... we watched Spiderwick chronicles)
                              hi Lindy welcome
i have some advice for you....
                              STOP BEING LAZY lol
                                Computer, she go craysee?

Wasn't really serious 'bout the nudes (although I do get excited if I find a good photo of a control cavity), but thanks - there's a lot of good photos there anyway...
Yep a largish community of SA artists on there too actually sorta started a club for sa artists we closed it down for a (long) while due to time and budget constraints but are currently trying to revive the idea and looking at re-opening it soon it's currently under construction but the bare bones of it are there www.loving-mzantsi.deviantart.com
                                    Hi Lindy, welcome here,
Alan Ratcliffe wrote: I'm still very much on the "auto" side of things though, and have been warned against taking the cameras apart and modding them. ?
Alan, if you are really keen on taking a camera apart, Check out this site first, The actual dissasemble part is in French, but the pictures would be warning enough i think.

                                    http://www.electricstuff.co.uk/insidestuff.html

If you take one of the professional cameras apart, a table would be full of small parts and minute screws. I am still looking to find a picture like that, it is amazing to how much stuff fits into a camera body.

the pictures would be warning enough i think
Don't bank on it ? Some things you should know about me:

I still don't wear a watch. As a kid the parental units would give me one every birthday and Xmas, and within 24 hours it would be in pieces. After a while, they stopped bothering, so I never got used to wearing one. I was the living proof that the slogan: "Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'" was wrong.

Then they gave me a junior carpenters set one snowy Christmas morn. When the arm of the sofa fell off an hour later, the saw was confiscated. The kitchen cupboard doors fell onto my grandfather's head shortly thereafter - bang went the screwdrivers. I don't remember what I did with the hammer, but I do remember having nothing but a ruler by Christmas night.

On the upside, I learned how to fix guitars by taking them apart. My first real guitar (a Fender "The Strat"), which cost me R1,100 in '84 (an absolute fortune then) was in pieces within a half hour of opening the case.

An incident with a neighbor's Jaguar XJ6 taught me to be more circumspect about just whose stuff I took apart though. Fortunately, the cameras belong to my wife...
And this is why I don't want to have any boys!!

Alan, I had the same problem but it was cut short with some good ole European-style beatings ?

Now I'm scared of taking ANYTHING apart ?
