Thanks stefstef.. Will definitely install it now and check it out ?
Does it actually detect chords decently?
      Interesting, will check it out
WOW this works very well. Thanks for posting it. I just played along all of Klopjag's songs an d it got it 100%
I tried it on some Creed and GNR and all was spot on.
        Shweet.
          For interest sake:

I was looking for the chords to play Spanish Eddie by Laura Branigan (yeah I know, it's pop music not worthy of a guitar player's time ? ). Nowhere to be found, I turned to Riffstation. With my little experience and green ears, I usually take very long to figure out and properly tab a song, so any means to hasten that process is welcome...

Take a swing at the song (chords with lyrics in .docx at the link below) and tell me what your impressions are of the accuracy of the progression. If it's accurate, consider it a (-nother) good reference to Riffstation.

P.S. I am convinced of all the chords, except maybe the C#m - sounds a bit too "high". Any thoughts?

          Thanks, enjoy!

Hmmm. As far as chord detection goes...

...Just tried it on Dreadlock Holiday and it misses all the passing chords and recognises all the m7ths as straight minors.

Also misses the Bm pedal chord in White Wedding completely and follows the bass line instead, and makes the B min a B maj.
Been playing with the free trial for a few hours and will definitely buy it. While not always 100% accurate (and really, how could a computer programme be accurate simply by scanning an mp3 for 5 seconds) it is a lot of fun and helped me jam along to songs I have never been able to find the chords for. Its the most fun I've had with a guitar for a while
yes I must say I like the app as well....... Its like the karaoke for guitar players
More advanced players may not appreciate it as much, but for someone like me, its awesome being able to strum along to my entire library of music
Same experience as Alan, I find it misses a lot of chords on the fast changes.

I much prefer Capo 3 for chord detection. http://supermegaultragroovy.com/products/capo/
It's mac and iPad only unfortunately, but has a lot of advantages. You can force it to recognise a chord at any point on the track so if it's missed something just click at that place and it will pick it up.

Also has the ability to build tablature (not on iPad yet). it visually displays the frequencies being played at various ranges, so you can drag and drop notes onto the spectrograph and build up the tab for the riffs. You can change string and fret positions at will.

Not really good for play along, but powerful for working out what exactly is being played.

Just tried it and I love it MOF I am hooked
You can also check out capo 3 for mac its alot the same but you can tab picking aswell
People need to keep in mind, not everyone has macs.

Have yet to try riffstation due to time and life, but im more inclined to now when i get the chance.
Downloaded trail version and find it working well. Experienced musicians will easily find the MAJ7, sus4, added6,9 and other fancy chords.
Did not see it doing writing the chords into sheet music, maybe in the next version or does one need the full version for this ?
@babalute: I can confirm that the full version (ver1.5.0.0 ) does not write chords to a music sheet.

What I did find is that by clicking on the notes on the top scroll bar you can edit that note/chord or all the same notes in the song. to different keys and or interval. Of course is doesn't change the audio.... only the note scroll

Also you can also rearrange and insert notes/chords by drag 'n drop....

Guys I found a very nice addition to the Riff station.
You can isolate a specific frequency or instrument by using the isolate function and slow the track waaaay down. In addition the track can be saved in the practice settings for speedy return

Just tackled the intro of Lars Trier's "little ponies" and voila a bit of self actualisation for achieving my dream since the year 2000 to play this piece.

It is rather pricey but way better than waiting for the trial to expire and downloading again :-[
In addition tracks can be saved in your practice settings for speedy return and reference ?. Just remember to create a folder.

As to the accuracy of the chords. I found strong bass line also influences the chord recognition but 7ths and minors can be picked out and played as such.

As a practice tool and for discovering those neat little finger style tricks often lost in real time music, a bonus!
