100% markup isn't unusual...And you will get items imported cheaper, but keeping a consistent supply line, handling returns, distributing and maintaining stock takes time and can be a significant investment opportunity cost. Once you factor that in, the margins shrink.

Though, as footapologist posted earlier in this thread - he feels there can be 'get rich quick' mentality in SA business - On certain things, I reckon he has a point.
Yea but that is what i doe everyday and i dont do it cause i want to get rich i do it cause i want to. I understand how the guy on the street feels when he has do buy something and everybody just wants to make alot of money and 100% on a distributor level is not normal at all the computer places makes like 10% markup on distributor level but there again is competition cause 2 or 3 guys have the right in import it with music for example only one guy may import it directly and the he can ask what he wants for it. That is the problem

            • Thank you all for your help

i really appreciate all your help a lot
my problem is i can't go to a music shop to play all these guitars so buy over a phone.
I took the faith guitar , got a really good deal on the faith.
I always wanted to buy a Taylor or a martin but their prices on this stage is a bit much and the things that i heard about the entry level ones was not good.

At the end i bought a Les paul studio and would never go back to that store again because of that.

What i hear from guys as well they dont keep as much stock as they did a few years back its a shame that a shop like that are going backwards.
Some guys are chops. We went to a Marshall in woodmead before in plakkies and shorts... the salesman let us rock out in the expensive guitars room and left us to our own devices there.

I've had pleasant and unpleasant experiences in the same store with different salesmen One will listen to you and advise you, but the next will be like "what you want is XYZ" after ignoring what you actually want. lol.
you are very lucky that was just how i saw the store.
The biggest problem i had was i was there to buy and they didn't even let me play the Gibsons

did anyone here use NYXL strings before i wonder how they are?

Developing that application is not an overnight job (source: This is my day job), and it will require a lot of thinking about licensing and what to do when people upload pirated music etc. I'm willing to put money on the fact that Norio won't be too keen on allowing that sort of thing for fear of legal issues, and I would agree. The clips section and the competitions already doesn't strictly allow us to upload covers of songs, for exactly that reason.

Maybe there is a way we can have a better search facility for the clips section and a way to tag each post with a number of keywords e.g. genre, length, author etc.

                          Norio?
i understand like i said its just an idea
the loop thing will still be pretty awesome !!
                          • there will be everywhere a huge sale on vox amps!!! starting today if im correct
                            • ez wrote: There is a section here http://www.guitarforum.co.za/clips-for-review/ where you can do exactly that. You are not, however, allowed to advertise things, except in the classifieds and even there I think you can't advertise your products, only gear to sell or buy.

If you mean something like soundcloud but where you can share and sell music, there's a lot of that out there and making such a thing for this website would prob require quite a lot of work.
its a nightmare to find something there its not sorted at all and yea it will take alot off work but it will bring in alot of new people i think.

try find good south African stuff on sound cloud?
                              • Good day

i don't post much , but read a lot of the post.
i like the place a lot cause you get such help from people who knows the product and dont just want to sell it.

i was wondering if (and this is just an idea) the admin can make an area where you can post loops or backtracks you make to sell or just to download to help other members and that would bring in a lot of new people.

as far as i know south africa doesn't have a place like that and to find loops or backtracks for south africa music like boremusiek for example is a nightmare.

with the loops people can show off their new gear and let people know exactly how it sounds.
i don't say make it a shop but a place to search easy for stuff under genre or a certain member.

all this to help each other of getting better and with that alot off new question will come like how did you get the sound off that or what were you using.

                                this is just an idea??????
                                • Good day

want to know what is your thoughts on a buffer pedal?

                                  like the true tone buffer

                                  thank you
                                  • Im almost finish now

                                    got the following

                                    Pedaltrain pt-2
                                    voltro power supply
                                    bbe compresor
                                    ts808

                                    vox ice 9
                                    flashback x4
                                    hall of fame reverb

                                    waiting for my volume pedal

wanted to get the cathedral reverb but not alot of good reviews of it

I found it difficult to tapping on time before the next song starts. I got myself a Flashback X4 and now I can store up to 3 presets. Makes a mountain of a difference.
                                      What about reverb?
I do agree with the statement regarding a more versatile delay, a DD7 will definately work but it may get somewhat limiting and frustrating. I also had a DD7 and it was enough for quite a while but having used the TC Nova Delay and Eventide Timefactor it is really convenient to save presets and recall them on the fly. And a tap switch is really easy to build for about 200 bucks so don't let that put you off a nice delay pedal.

And some extra comment regarding the reverb, I had to fix my reverb and didn't use it a while and got along quite alright but now that its working again, opens up alot of room for swells and a bigger sound, get one if you've got the rest!
I know the dd7 is not that great but the flashback or nova delay or even the time live are all insane but they are heavy expensive pedals

I got reverb on my amp its a Peavey valve king micro and like it a lot

am still deciding bought today the following

                                      pedaltrain pt-2
                                      pedaltrain volto power supply
                                      ts808 35th anniversary edition
                                      mxr noise clamp
still looking for the other for good prices but these things are a lot more expensive than multi effects
                                      • Good day
