  • For interest sake:

I was looking for the chords to play Spanish Eddie by Laura Branigan (yeah I know, it's pop music not worthy of a guitar player's time ? ). Nowhere to be found, I turned to Riffstation. With my little experience and green ears, I usually take very long to figure out and properly tab a song, so any means to hasten that process is welcome...

Take a swing at the song (chords with lyrics in .docx at the link below) and tell me what your impressions are of the accuracy of the progression. If it's accurate, consider it a (-nother) good reference to Riffstation.

P.S. I am convinced of all the chords, except maybe the C#m - sounds a bit too "high". Any thoughts?

    Thanks, enjoy!

    • And quickly using it now to get chords for aKing I didn't find on net. In fact, going to Riffstation all the more often before even trying the googlemachine
      • Hi guys,

Using it as we speak! Hmm, out of the one million guitar-related crapware I have used before, this is really good. For me it has eliminated 90% of Audacity use, ALL use of chord finder stuff, lots of mp3 player use (it's like a music player that also extracts and scrolls chords for my viewing pleasure.

Very neat and lightweight package that does the following:

*Pitches songs up and down (i.e. transpose for you to reach). Cleaner and faster than Audacity, with easy "knob" on the interface. Does this live while playing, don't have to run a filter beforehand or whatever.

*Changes tempo similar to above, easy etc. According to developer it is for practicing with the song.

*Shows chords (that it extracts purely by itself, spot on every time) while playing, as standard along with the visualization, always. Infinitely more accurate than ANY I've tried.

*Also has feature to show diagrams as the song plays for noobs - clear.

*Separates vocals and bass line and guitars (actually frequency bands that it sort of decides by itself, super accurate). That whole part of the app contains three knobs and 4 buttons, all lekker analog. You can not design this simpler. The single best piece of software for this; and no geeky stuff required either. It's like changing the volume up and down in Winamp, seriously. No Audacity-split tracks-invert one-recombine-edit 1000 times-just to get something ever again...

*Metronome. Just a volume knob for basic clicker, perfect.

*Visualization in the form of those dB populations like Audacity and Soundcloud, scrolling along by itself. You can see this clearly, along with the chords, coming from a distance for anticipating or whatever your needs.

*It runs all of the above purely from any sound file (e.g. mp3) - no seperate tracks or vst plugins or whatever other internet junk that doesn't work.

        *A music player ?

I guess I'm raving about this application because of the piles and piles of useless software with seductive descriptions on their websites. It's seriously basic but equally good, use it.

P.s. I stalled this post halfway because I first had to play a few Albert Hammond songs with RS... ? Going to continue now
        • Alan,

          Much appreciated!

I guess I am lucky in that regard yes. I never had the seemingly common problem of struggling with singing while playing (i.t.o. keeping rhythm). To me it's like it fits together from the start, or complements each other. The same with the strumming - I never count and didn't have trouble with the patterns and so forth.

The dear price it comes at, I guess, is that I have a proportional deficiency in the scales/lead/picking-whatever department. Man alive, as soon as individual strings are involved anywhere, from 5tatonic scales to simple finger picking, the proverbial beetle immediately bliksems off of its kurkprop.

It suits me okay though, as I have always been a great believer in, and supporter of the rhythm guitarist/backing vocalist in a lead guitar ruled world, e.g. Malcolm Young who is as much an MVP IMHO as any big-mouthed soloist...

Any which way, I would like to thank you while I stray off topic for the warm welcome reply. I am glad I found the forum and look forward to its use!

          D G D A-D~~~
          Cheers for now!

          • Hi everyone!

I have been playing for about a year now - self taught via Youtube and the like. I am therefore clueless with any facet of music other than simple 4 chord progression songs.

I quickly found that I can't really keep quiet while playing songs I like ? I have no vocal training or experience whatsoever (e.g. school choir) and just sing according to the original song in my head, just like you would sing along to a song on the radio. Consequently, I don't have any gauge as to the quality of my singing.

Would you be so kind as to sneak a peek at a few of my songs (links below, cell phone recorded) and stating your general impression? I would expect that technically there might be many things wrong, but I am wondering whether there is anything good going on, or whether I should quit before someone gets hurt. My aim is to just be able to play, sing and enjoy - no aspirations to perform etc.

            Thanks thanks thanks!!!
