I am having trouble acquiring new rhythms for songs. Are there any tips from the pro's?
Thanks.

Thanks will check it out!Yeh apologies for the curt initial response.. wife was asking me to finish her online efiling
I mainly listen to rock etc.. but being Portuguese, i do listen to a lot of Latin music which has really elaborate rhythm at times.. and it definitely helps me to think rhythm sections not always inline with rock.
YouTube some mariza fado to get an idea of what i mean. Some mariachi music too.
Good luck mate
Don't have guitar hero but sounds interesting!warrenpridgeon wrote: play guitar hero... but the drums...on expert. lol. that's actually influenced how I play guitar... just a thought.
For me it was a little like learning another instrument because I progressed through the difficulty levels to where I can play most of the metallica songs on hard and expert now on the drums... the drums on that game are much closer to the real thing than the guitar. So I think a different instrument gives you a different perspective... It's actually helped me pick out drum pieces in songs when I play with a band... and that changes how I play the guitar.Badapple wrote:Don't have guitar hero but sounds interesting!warrenpridgeon wrote: play guitar hero... but the drums...on expert. lol. that's actually influenced how I play guitar... just a thought.

It makes sense. Doing the same routine everyday won't get one anywhere.Get yourself a rhythm dictionary or encyclopedia... It includes latin and pretty much any other genre. Include some listening too, like others suggested.
The easy way is forcing yourself to play something else instead of your normal routine. Experiment daily. The hard way is getting the encyclopedia
Will check it out. ?+1 practice something that throws you off your game and causes you to focus on getting it right!
There's a cool reggae rhythm lesson on the youtubes by a guy called Tuff Lion. He's a well renowned reggae rhythm guitarist and artist and goes through the basics of that off beat and stuff. Worth it to check out.
Boom! Here you go:

? Yeah - that stuff that can actually carry the music, even when you're not around. ?BluJu wrote: Rhythm guitar? You mean that stuff the inferior guitarist in the band plays while I'm busy soloing.
Even "inferior" guitarists like to have some fun sometimes... or should we just leave it all to Lord Muck all the time ???BluJu wrote: Rhythm guitar? You mean that stuff the inferior guitarist in the band plays while I'm busy soloing.
Don't worry about that stuff. Rather do some more scales.
You just beat me to it Alan! LolAlan Ratcliffe wrote:? Yeah - that stuff that can actually carry the music, even when you're not around. ?BluJu wrote: Rhythm guitar? You mean that stuff the inferior guitarist in the band plays while I'm busy soloing.
