  • Your piece of gear that almost only YOU like

I hope Im not the only one who experiences this. The piece of gear you very much enjoy using, but other guitarists or maybe non-guitarists shun.

My piece is my Jackson... It's probably one of the cheapest Jacksons out there and I got mine in mint condition from a cash crusaders for a steal! Now Ive been to quite a few guitar shops where I would start chatting with the salesman about gear and soon the subject moves to my Jackson. Ive heard more than once that the bolt-on neck is rubbish and the shape is uncomfortable and the pick-ups are junk blah blah blah... But then I get home and I pick up my Jackson and she sings a song which I like. Despite her flaws and the presence of a far better guitar, she's still an awesome guitar! ☹

Am I the only one experiencing something like this??
    YES.......................... :roflmao:

Not really, I think that we are fortunately all the same. My Fenders have been referred to as planks by at least one Jackson player, who, incidentally, feels the same way about his guitar that you do about yours. Just don't ever sell it! That guitar just feels like Home Sweet Home! Like my Tele, it really and honestly is a piece of cr*p, worn out, abused, badly refinished, but it has become a part of me and my guitar playing experience.

We are all biased to some extent or the other. It makes the world go round.

    Merry Christmas Psyx!
All my gear that makes me sound "nasty" or "ugly" makes me smile. But the band is like: "Um... you joking right?"
I hear you. Usually advice follows the criticism that is plain ignored. :?
        My Digitech multieffects ?

I've tried boutique pedals, Boss GT8, Line 6 and tons of other pedals, but I keep on coming back to the Digitech. Even when I did eventually sell mine to buy another guitar, I kept an eye on the classifieds for another one (which I got a few weeks ago). It just works for me.
My Ibanez Concord. Made in Japan in the 70s. Old and dinged and scratched. Replacement Grover tuners fitted skew.
Others would rather have their eyes gouged out than own her but I love her to bits.
She lives in my lounge where I fondle her daily... 8)
Yup, my superstrat builds with single hum and single in the neck..

You'd be amazed the strange questions i get about them.

Only folks that appreciate them are the charvel and kramer guys ?

Thanks man!! And a Merry Christmas to you too!
I recently sold a Cort Curbow 5 string bass. In the ten years I played it, I never met another person who played one, never mind liked it.
For me it's my Boss GT-Pro (GT-8 in a rack). Everything aside from the amp/speaker sims is pretty good (moot point as I use it for piezos). Incredibly flexible processing - more so than any of my other, more expensive units - and it does a few things that nothing else does.

I like 'em - a real sleeper gem. Gareth Smit of The Hedges/For Folks Sake plays a four string version.

Perfectly logical rock machine IMO. I'm surprised we don't see more production guitars with that config. The Vigier Bumblefoot signature is one.

Ugly is the new pretty. ? My first band called my one solo tone "the icepick in the forehead". Comes from listening to too much Zappa/Belew/Fripp. ?

                    I have two:

My Zvex Wah probe, which is almost like a wah pedal that, rather than an expression pedal, is controlled with a proximity sensor. It allows some awesome wah-type sounds, but it really is not at wah pedal, and does not replace one.

The second is my Homebrew electronics unomos boost pedal, which my former band mates used to 'lovingly' call my "louderthaneverybodyelse" pedal. It is an awesome awesome awesome pedal, offering superb boost, with a little break up, however that pot is like a hair trigger...volume increases very quickly, and for what I used it for, the useable region is at about 7:31 (with 6 o'clock being 0 in this case) and 7:35 being about five times too loud...still, I love that pedal.

You can always change the pot for one with a different/better taper. Worth doing with a pedal that you love.
mmmm for me it's my ZT acoustic lunchbox amp........... it's made me look at amps in a whole new light ......... and for my genre of jazz , i can use it with a drummer with brushes ( my percussionist) and it sounds great and if i need more i add a 15" extention cab and i get fat /loud sound which can compete with my really LOUD other drummer .......

they small /powerful and lightweight .....and deliver big sound......... in europe and states everyone has a ZT ....for small gigs or as a backup .... but here i seem to be the only one using it ...yet to see another band/player use one here........... very sad ....... they don't know what they missing

Not sure if this counts but I have recently taken to buying cheap 'boutique' pedals - well mainly because I can't afford real 'boutique' pedals at the moment! Anyway particular favourites are: danelectro transparent overdrive and joyo ultimate drive. Sixty quid for both which have replaced much more expensive pedals on my board! Some guitarists may look down upon me but they sound good to me! Not sure if you get them in sa though but are worth checking out if you get a chance, joyo in particular as they do a full range of cheap true bypass 'clones'

Same thing with my pedalboard - I'm sure there'll be lots of tsk tsking and head shaking when I eventually photograph it and put it up on the Your Pedalboard thread, but to be honest, I love it and it sounds good to me. That's all that matters.
Cool thread idea. I always feel like no one cares for the Hardwire SC-2, but it is by far the best and most versatile distortion pedal I've ever used.
My Fender G-Dec3. I haven't seen them in any of the local stores or on any of the local e-sellers sites. I picked up a first gen G-Dec at a pawn shop in Bloem a few years back and I remember seeing a seller on Gumtree trying to flog one for an eternity, so the older ones made it to our shores. But the new ones...? Don't know. Bought mine through Takealot when they still had the Amazon service. I haven't read about any other owners in SA and I am amazed that they never caught on locally as much as the Mustang series.

It really is the perfect practice amp. Sounds thin and a bit lifeless at low volumes. It probably sounds better at higher volumes , but I don't know - I only use it with headphones on. Not being able to crank up is one of the main reasons I need a practice amp rather than a loud little valve jobbie and with the 'phones on this amp comes to live. The modelling is great and because I have no idea how a real Dirty Tweed amp sounds like I am not hung up about how accurate a reproduction it is, only that it sounds like a million bucks to my ears. The effects the same.
Extra perks are the USB compatability to link up with your PC for recording and linking with the FUSE software, the SD card slot to save MP3's and presets on and being instantly able to either load the presets or MP3"s as backtracks to jam along with. Brilliant little practice amp.

Probably my Planet Waves Tru-Strobe tuner. So many people didn't like it that I picked it up from the bargain bin at TOMS.
For me, its probably my amp!

i think it pulls off the Fender clean pretty well, but other people arent of the same opinion!
                                    oh well...
Would have to be my G-Flex 2-12 Cabinet , Fantasticly Punchy Cab.
My RG2228 seems to get a lot of mixed responses from people, from the regular "Why would you need that many when it's hard enough to master 6?" to "Why don't you just play bass?" people seem to automatically assume I have to justify owning the thing, which is weird cause I'm pretty sure I paid for it and don't feel I need more justification than I wanted one.
