So i was sitting here at work in my own wonderland of awesomeness as usual, and i was wondering what would my first riff be if i had a 59' Les Paul Standard for just 10 mins in my hands.

My first riff i guess would be...
1) Whole Lotta Love - Led zepplin
quickly followed by
2)Alive - Pearl jam....then anything else for the remaining 2 minutes, ?.

So if you had the ULTIMATE guitar in your hands what would be the first riff you play ?

PS. i don't know if this thread is a re hash or totally original, soz.
Some bluesy noodling in A# if it's an electric and something in G if it's an acoustic.

ok depends which "ultimate guitar " i'm holding

if it was a Fender telecaster ..then definitely some rolling stones classics, "satifaction" / "jumping jack flash" or "alcohol" by brad paisley

if it was a Fender stratocaster then some dire straits "sultans of swing" , eric claptons "layla"

if it was a Gibson ES175 jazz guitar then "so what " by miles davie "take 5" by dave brubeck

if it was a Ramirez classical nylon string then some paco de lucia "flamenco" and Jobim "latin" grooves

if it was a Martin D28 steel string acoustic then arlo guthries "alices restuarant" for the whole 10 min .... and still only be half way thru the song ?

so for me those above are my choice of ultimate guitars and each would have their own faves.......

        Cool thread.

I dunno, probably Sweet Home Alabama or Johnny B Goode as those are the riffs I play best ? Of course the owner of said guitar would just shake his head and think "noobs!"
Dave mustians flying v dean guitar. I would play holy wars/punishment due and Hook in mouth.

If I were to be able to get an opportunity to play the best sounding guitar ever to me then I think I'd play one of my own things. Then I'd know what I sound like on the most awesome guitar ever, and that would be pretty cool 8) to me at least...

I will admit I doubt anything I've written would merit that opportunity :-[

Brothers in Arms...with a symphony orchestra
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing ?
Warlock - All We Are :woohoo:
I've been close, I played a 1960 Les Paul. Well, when I say played, I mean eeked out, as the frets were as crap as imaginable. But I noodled, I think ?
I'd probably panic and reset to default setting ... a very bad rendition of stairway ?
Ultimate acoustic - a Lowden? or one of Racman's guitars - I would tune to DADGAD and have a noodle

Fender Strat - Pentatonic Blues scale in A

LP - I have never played one before(either Gibson or otherwise), I would just imagine I am Gary or Joe and have a go

If I got my hands on a true vintage strat I'd play smoke on the water or iron man just to watch the owner go HNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG
On a steel string acoustic "nothing else matters" is always a winner followed by some andy mckee "drifting" or john mayer "why georgia" ... I love open strings.

On a LP, "sweet child of mine"

Strat... "Slow dancing in a burning room" would be nice, but then I would want the whole JM setup!!
ok someone had to say it ....... Stairway on any guitar ? \m/

                                I still think it's a great song ?
The solo on "Stairway" on "The Song Remains The Same" is still one of my favourite solo's of all time, not for technique or speed but for the drama that Page builds and builds until it explodes. Getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

Would still love to get a double neck guitar one day just to do the "Stairway" thing :-[

#agreed, that solo is awesome!!! Trying to play the solo along with page with the feeling he does is another thing all together, but yeah the build up is awesome!
