Greetings to all,

Happened to run across this site a while ago, and decided to join the fray. I am based in Langebaan on the West Coast and have been playing for about 25 years (teaching yourself takes time!). I have had the good fortune of playing with Jo Martin on several occasions and I also did a 3 day workshop with Dan Patlansky in beautiful Clarens (Free State) in April this year. The tips on blues playing that I picked up from him, when I started applying them and being a bit more dilligent in my practicing of the basics, has finally got me to the stage where I am moving forward again in leaps and bounds. My favourite style is still the blues, or good old Texas style rock, and I am a huge SRV/Hendrix fan. I also recently discovered an excellent site called StevieSnacks.com (not sure if I'm allowed to mention it here?), with some killer free lessons on SRV style playing. I think the fact that I prefer playing with a band (not the one-man-band type) may have held me back as a performer, as I do not have a regular band. I mainly practice with backing tracks at home, or just play along with CD's. I have a Boss Loop Station that comes in very handy as well. My gear is mentioned in my sigature, and you can see the Strat and Bass in my picture. There are also pictures of my Blues Junior on this site (see BillM mods on a Blues Junior by Karel Mars)

Well that's it for now
Peace
    Welcome to the fray!

Nice gear you have. I take it you don't really like tele's?

Hi Joop. Are you an early riser, or did you get home really late? ?
        Welcome to the forum!
Sure you will have lost of fun here!
          Hi Joop

Some serious gear and it all points to 'THE BLUES'
Welcome and I am sure we will benefit from your experience
          ?
            welcome Joop.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to play with a band. I also won't do the one man band thing, i don't think I have the personality to handle it anyway.
I reckon it takes a special person to do that, there's nobody to hide behind if something goes wrong.

What are sound guys for, I ask with tears in my eyes.

The truly brave souls are the likes of Keira who really has nobody else to blame.
Welcome! Some really nice gear I wouldn't mind owning! ?
+100000000 on blues and SRV!!!!!!!! I've also come across steviesnacks and bookmarked it, but haven't made the time to go through the lessons yet... must make a plan!
Hi Joop - welcome (...my friend, to the show that never ends...)
'54 Fender 50th Anniversary Strat (Masterbuilt by Yuriy Shishkov)
Ooh. Excellent builder (if sometimes seemingly inspired by "Russian Mafia bling"?)! You may have to post pics of that one.
Bob the sound guy can't help you remember the chords or a solo you've forgotten... :-[

Ah... I can see the gaps in your education. When you forget the words you just flap your jaws in front of the microphone, making exaggerated mouth movements, and cast filthy looks in the direction of the mixing desk. A key technique here is to be able to silently mouth "WHAT THE...." at the same time as casting a filthy look.

As with all truly worthwhile things it will take a little practice, but that practice WILL pay off.

Maybe the time is better spent learning your chords and words in the first place ?
Sorry Joop, we've hijacked your thread :-[

                            Hi Joop

How things going? You still on the oil rigs? ?

                            Good to have you around!

It's a matter of priorities. Consider the various skills you have to master...
                              • Looking cool
                              • Getting girl's phone numbers
                              • Filthy looks at the sound guy
                              • Blaming the drummer
                              • Words, chords, scales, modes, note values (commonly referred to as "stuff")
                              • Hammers and pulls to free up your right hand for drinking
Clearly something has to give. There aren't enough hours in the day.
Welcome aboard Joop, good to have yet another Blues man around?

Awesome gear collection here, please post a sound clip of the Junior!
                                  Welcome, enjoy the forum.

Bob I see we have some understanding of modern rock bands...

Pete, ja you're right, sometimes I just hit a blank. Especially if it's a Ronan Keating song. Maybe it's psychological? ???
