Richard Thompson - Rumor and Sigh

Really my motivation was Jack Flash's outpourings of love for Jerry Scheff who plays all the bass on this album and does a fab job. The depth (and breadth) of the songwriting on this album is remarkable and it's probably his best recorded vocal performance. Dig the anti-Maggie rant "Mother Knows Best" with really pissed-off guitar soloing. Even if you love Maggie you can still love those solos.

      Yes way!

It's been a while actually - what with The Smiths, Nick Lowe, Ry Cooder, Tinariwen, various combinations of Watersons & Carthies, Martin Simpson, Mike Heron, Television and... I think that's the lot. Oh... Robert Plant too.

      Oops! And the Stones.
Now that Warren's forced my hand, I have to 'fess up to having the Stones for commute listening at the moment. Hot Rocks volume 1.

Boy! They were really good! I'm happy to be reminded of the wonderfulness.
been listening to marillion- misplaced childhood tiamat- wings of heaven dreamtheater- awake
I was actually listening to 'Outlandos d'Amour' The Police, really enjoyed their slight punk leaning!(at least on this album)

Still remember buying this in 1978 and enjoying the Simplicity of the songs. I was hugely into Prog Rock at the time and wasn't quite used simple little 3 minute songs. Was quite refreshing at the time and made me stand back and analyse what I was listening to, and I kind of got into the late 70's Punk, New Wave , Ska thingy.

What made me buy this album was the single "Landlord" and 'Fallout" which I acquired from the UK family.

Who can remember all the weird shaped singles you could get at the time

Quite honestly the last Police I enjoyed.

But have y'all noticed how bold women drivers are becoming. And going beyond bold to being audacious and damned dangerous man! And so it goes with women guitar players as well. I'm listening to Ana Popovic - Unconditional, and really enjoying it. But I must tell you that initially I got the album for the cover mostly.
                Yea, love the early 'Police'.
On another note tho, 'Korpiklaani' are plucking a deep Celtic string in me, emotional stuff.
Listening to some Lost Soul - Immerse in Infinity. Really really good and heavy Polish Death Metal
The Sword and Alex Skolnick Trio! What a trip!
just pciekd up a remaster version of wish you were here ..... so listening to shine on you crazy diamond ..all the parts .......again an again ?
Rediscovered the Communique album of Dire Straits again. Very dark and brooding compared to their more commercial outings but still a good listen.

Brilliant Album and quite weird that I am listening to it right now. News is a great song(among many others)

Knopfler is just so raw and his tone is incredible.

The Rhythm Guitar of brother David is also a contributing factor to the sound of the first two albums

Telepathy. His tone is really to die for. Has he already started playing Shecters at this point or is it still the good old Strat?
Adelitas Way, guy has great vocals - average guitar work going on.
Primus-Jerry was a race car driver.
Two albums have been in my car for a couple of days

Genesis - Trick of the Tale , The Album after Peter Gabriel had left, Tony Banks (Keyboardist) really stepped up creatively and this could be the best Genesis album before Phil Collins turned them into a Motown band.

Pink Floyd - Obscured by clouds , Amazing how Gilmour in 1972 had such a good tone already. "Childhoods End", one of my favourite Floyd Tracks
                                    Flashback time for me.

The Incredible String Band - 5000 Spirits or The Layers of the Onion
                                      Eric Skye: Slow Moving Dog

Just got these from Eric who recorded this CD in two sessions the way I enjoy it - Double Bass, Drums and 00-12 Acoustic guitar recorded live in the recording studio. No overdubs, layers etc, just three talented musos jamming together - wonderful stuff!!
