Guys

I had the pleasure of going to Jessie's first concert at the Civic on Tuesday night... before that I heard some of his music on the radio, but I did not really listen to him. WOW is all I can say. I think his biggest asset is his stage personality and interaction with the crowd,

Here is a extract of an interview

In an interview in the Sunday Times, Clegg said:

"Well, the music is all about a young person growing up, and the transitions from one phase of your life to another, dealing with relationships and having responsibilities.

"These are the major themes of the album. These are the things I've had to deal with and working on this album has helped me grow and work through these issues."

Talking about mutterings that he is riding on his father's wings, the young artist said:

"Of course, there's nothing you can do about that ... It's to be expected. It's actually a huge honour to be compared with him... When I was growing up, being seen as Johnny Clegg's son never really bothered me," he said.

"Once they hear the music they'll hear I'm on a completely different message."

Man this guy is going places take the time to see one of his shows ...Attila

Thanks for the tip! Will keep my eyes peeled for gigs
I heard he plays with Dan Patlansky and Arno Carstens at his gigs

Aubs, I suspect you're being sarcastic ( ?), but I kinda liked Julian. Valotte, Salt water and Too late for goodbyes are IMHO cool pop songs. But longevity is the issue. I suppose the family name becomes a bit of an albatross. I think the two songs I've heard of Jesse's are okay. I'm a rabid Johnny Clegg fan, and I think the fact that Jesse's taken a completely different musical direction is good (otherwise he would be looking for trouble). Like Jacob Dylan's Wallflowers is cool - different direction from the old man. Although if you're good enough the same style can work - a la the Buckleys.

In fact, I love Julian Lennon, I have the CD!!! Yes, I was thinking of the longevity issue. And yes, I love Johnny's stuff, from day 1 with Sipho! Used to go watch them at Wits.
Julian came onto the scene with a bang, FANTASTIC debut album...............the end!!! Unfortunately Jesse's stuff does nothing for me.....but then, that's me.

Perhaps I should be less negative towards Jesse's music, in all fairness, and wish him everything of the best as a musician and songwriter, and I sincerely do!

Yep Youve  heard right both  Dan Patlansky and Arno Carstens were there.

You got to love Dans guitar though, it doesn't look relic it is RELIC   !!!!!! what can I say the man can play,

Not to dis Arno but he looked like he was auditioning for the fairy godmother part in the pantomimes

              ?

Aubs did you go to the Wits Free People concerts. I also saw Jaluka at one of these, I think Evoid were also on the Bill. I used to enjoy those concerts. The one where I saw Johnny was either the Old Rand Show or Syringa Spa.

Must look out for Jesse. ?

I saw Juluka at Die Neelsie (University of Stellenbosch's social centre) in 1986. This was between Clegg's Thirld Word Child solo album and the first Savuka album. He had, as I understood, just put the new band together (Savuka = 'we have risen') and took them on a tour of campusses and low-key venues to gel and get tight before going large. Hell of a privilege. Incredible show. it was a Friday night and there must have been a 100 people max! This was Stellenbosch in 1986, for heaven's sake!! :-[ Still one of my great concert experiences ...

Have had the privilage to mix a track for Jesse (going to air in about 5 weeks), and that guy can sing!! He also knows how to knock together a good lyric.. Made me go back to the drawing board to get it better on my side..
                        16 days later
                        yeahman!

judging purely on the quality of his album, id say hes on his way up!!!!

btw... neps what did you mix on?

his latest record sounds incredible, i was so impressed!

                        peace

Bought his album yesterday after hearing the song "Today" on MK. Very impressed with it I must say. Not my favourite style of music, but am enjoying it. The sound quality is great, and the songs are quite catchy.
