It shouldn't be so loud (I thought), its solid state ... but... it is.

A not loud 2x12? Ummm...errr....not really a thing I've often run into. Blame all those fender twins - though I did have a LAb Series L5 (70's Solid State 2x12) that played all right at low volumes.

Sell the code and get a Boss Katana 50, that does low volume (clean or breakup) pretty darn well.

Is how we learn - though figuring out what we actually need vs what we want is almost all the journey (though don't believe me, I play bass!)

Yeah! , ...well .. I did bet into the "modelling" there ... it's kind of working
But the inbuilt CAB emulation seems to be tuned for the inbuilt speakers.
And the inbuilt speaker are NOT FR

Funny ... my fav Amp ... not so much for super-clean as its famous for .. but the broken clean when cranked, but that is VERY loud.
I would def buy one again ... one day, maybe the new "Tone Master" .. if goes a bit down in price .. and it sounds as it promises

The Katana 50 doesn't have an fx-loop and I did consider it ...
I really tried to like the Katana ...and the 100 has an
FX loop I tried hard, it is def the Best value out there and its BOSS .
But for some reason didn't make me buy it.
I knew was possibly the long term "safe" choice, but again it didn't make buy it

on the other hand, the Marshall "twin" sound, "American Clean & American Crunch" I heard when tested
it was very very good, not pure "blackface", a tone of its own.
Enough to make my buy it ...

      That and tone <> volume. Though, I am a long time multi-fx user (I've had > 10 over the yrs), so the Katana makes sense to me. And it get's pretty decent tones at bedroom volumes and can hang with a energetic drummer (and still sounds good) - not that a good valve amp doesn't sound better, (Mesa 5:25 express is amazing. Laney's mid range valve amps are also great) - but it's 3-4x more $$$.

      I'll never own a Twin - capricious beasts - too loud for 99% of jams/gigs I'd ever to get to play and always needing something, valves, caps, speakers, attenuators, friends to help carry ?

        I Also had a Laney ... they were quite unpopular at the time, I remember I got in special it was being discontinued, a 40Watts with 2 channels that you could connect in "series" , high gain at lowish volume... great Amp.
        Can't remember the model ... front metallic grill all black ..
        It was Very loud . for its 40Watts... nobody in my circle was louder than that ... at the time ?

        I Also embrace multi-fx quite early ... BOSS ME-5 ? BOSS SE-6 (if memory serves) , Roland GP-16 .. old stuff
        But that was the 80's ... ? ... lots of chorus and delays, flangers ...
        late 90's came back to me trying use less fx, more Amp based kind of sound, less from pedals , back to basics , delay, reverb, overdrive ...

        BTW: I'm more on "indie" sound my self ... to put it in context ?

          Odd how the Laney amps never got much love locally - aside from the Cub12 - I reckon it's Bothner's not doing much to promote the brand in SA? Over time I've gotten to try a few good Laney products (E.g. not the cheep n nasty practice amps) and I've become a fan. The VC & LC series valve amps are pretty darn good buys in the secondhand market.

          I went through a Korg G3, Boss ME <something>, Line 6 X3 Live, Boss GT6B, Zoom(s) (many, I like 'em) , a horrible Behringer bass thing, NI Guitar Rig 4 (with Rig Kontrol), and some other crap stuff I'd rather forget. The Line6 was pretty good tonewise, but big, heavy and fragile. The Boss GT6B had everything but tone. And my favourite (for bass) is the cheap n cheerful;, Zoom B2 - love that thing - though I'm long overdue to upgrade to the B1X, I see that's just released...Aside from the Katana, not sure what I'd got for multi-fx on guitar a.t.m?

          80's ProCo Rat driving a crunchy amp? There's something to a RAT pedal that is special, same with the original Russian Big Muffs - they got a distinct sound that just doesn't seem to be re-creatable.

          I went through a few pedals over the years - took a while to realize that a amp+speaker does sooo much for guitar tone - and getting guitar+amp+speaker+pedals dialed in...Heish,, I'd rather play bass DI'ed into someone else's PA ?

            That was one of the things I liked about the Katana ... you are prety much covered.
            Its just missing a looper, (I use my laptop right now for it)
            and MIDI-IN to maybe take the advantage of the inbuilt fx
            in my opinion ...

              And a tuner - but it makes corporate sense at the price point - they excluded their two best selling pedals (looper + tuner). Having MIDI IN...well, you could then not have to use their compromised (and pricey) footswitch either...

                On the other hand there is a "special USB box" , USB-host-box, that is supposed to give you access to MIDI

                It has to special , same as the Fender Mustang, BOSS/Roland USB ports, seem to not be "class compliant"

                  I'm of the same mind it seems - though I think by thinking through it, it helps calm my GAS(sy) tendencies.

                  Limitations are not , necessarily a bad thing ... it just push you to do things "your way" ! ,

                    The Code 100 uses "custom" speakers (code for cheap) 4 Ohm speakers. I would suggest a separate single cab with one of these https://celestion.com/product/200/F12_X200/ which are full range units specifically designed for modelling amps. They are also reasonably priced at R3,825 and will work in a normal single 12 cab or, better, in a ported cab for which I have the Celestion factory spec.

                    A separate cab will also mean that you can leave the Code 100 stock which will help resale value when you want to sell on. Do not change the stock speakers as all non modelling guitar speakers have their own distinct tone which will mess up the modelling characteristics.

                    The amp has speaker out it should be easy .
                    That speaker, the F12-X200, its 8 Ohm so power delivery is the same,, right?
                    I was originally thinking in to tame it abit;
                    because he master volume is too sensitive goes from nothing to loud in a jiffy

                    Interestingly I just tried the amp backwards , on top the couch ? , muffled.
                    While it lost , obviously. the top end, ( that Amp is quite bright ) ... it made it sweeter ...
                    Not sure if full range would be the right choice ...
                    I think, Marshall used those cheap stock speaker, not only to save money but to attenuate the Digital-feeling too.
                    The inbuilt cab emulator is mild, doesn't take ALL the edge off , again seems the cheapo-speakers where part of the equation ?

                    I'm thinking... today... ? that maybe I just need and IR/cab-emulator for my "home" needs.
                    I tried recording using the Amp's USB with Amplitube ... all bypassed, but the speakers section.
                    It sounded quite good, not Amplitube quality, but way better ... very very close

                      Here I Turned off the Amp cabs, and used Amplitube as a plain CAB emulator, nothing else

                      I think it sound good... right now , let see tomorrow what I think ?
