What speaker is in the amp? Which amp is it?
Double the impedance (Ohms) will only make a 3dB difference to SPL at any given setting. 3dB is just enough to hear that it is softer. -10dB is half the volume
If it currently has a 12" speaker we could look at a 16 Ohm unit with lower efficiency which will make some difference but nothing massive. Maybe you are just having to drive everything very hard to get decent tone so we can look at that option as well.
