This will be the last Challenge for the year, and until Pete takes over which will be in Feb sometime. I encourage everyone to participate, as this months theme is nice and vague and completely open to your interpretation.
The theme:
Woodstock
You can for example play the type of genre/style that would be found in the Woodstock era, or you can pretend you are an artist who gets to play Woodstock and the song you submit is the song you'd play etc. These are just two suggestions out of countless. Go wild.
I'm going to give you the holidays to work on something. I know there has been talk about the longer the time is to submit something the less likely someone is to actually submit, but thats nonsense. Do it this week and submit it to me as soon as possible if you want to then.
PM me your entry on or before
12th Jan 2014
*Note: The 'sound' of the Woodstock era was not great. So don't worry too much on getting the sound or song to sound great, and just worry about submitting something. It was a very raw period in musical history.

Nice topic - wide open to interpretation. ?
Hammeron
Lekka! If I was a black man I'd do a Richie Havens type number!
Cool to have it back on track.
PeteM
Nice one Adrian. Regrettably, I won't be able to to participate. Have fun everyone. Remember to meditate before starting your composition and also remember that life is a river. Free love and peace to all. ?

Nicely Adrian - I like it!

Unless Santa gets off his phat a$$ ? - and there's a new recording interface in my stocking, my entry will be a rather raw sketch of an idea. The up side is...it's already done! ?

i have an idea for something. the kids are away for a week or two, and i'm on leave. the studio, such as it is, is 90% cleaned up and sorted. the wife is almost coming round to letting me get the new imac - even if i don't, the existing set up will definitely suffice. everything is pointing to me finally putting something together for the challenge.
all i need to do is get off my derriere

Ahhh man, most exciting. I am routing for you to do it 8)

I hope everyone is getting their Woodstock on. Still have ample time to work on something. Don't let your excuses get the better of you.
Here is some inspiration/motivation.

Mind the fact that all these artists where on some cocktail concoction of narcotics haha

I hope all of you are putting final touches on the challenge. I already have an entry submitted.
DUE DATE: MONDAY (anytime)
domhatch
holy pooballs. well, long nights ahead for me i guess. i'm not missing out on this one - if only because i really want the feedback, and to see how i stack up against the (pretty serious) competition out there. this is an acoustic composition, i might lay down some drums in the same vein, if i get the time...
nose, grindstone. grindstone, nose.

That sounds awesome Don.

Sorry - really wanted to do this one, but my recording computer has come down with a terminal ailment (mobo by the looks of it).

Hello everyone, just want to remind you one last time and before the weekend that the last comp before Pete takes over is due Monday. I know it says the 12th, but I think by giving you Monday to submit will make it that much easier.
I spent some time updating the hall of fame, and just listening to the entries from the past years and it has really made be feel passionate about this competition section of the forum. Not many forums can boast that they have such a section. This is where we really put our skills, theory, knowledge learnt from other places and the forum back into the forum, and for others to hear what we about. I know I haven't entered as many times as I would like to, but whenever I have the opportunity to do so, I will, and I encourage you all to do so. It builds a sense of community.
Some of the stellar locals who have their names featured in the "Hall of Fame" include none other than: evolucian, Highway Chile, Warren, deefstes, Manfred Klose, Hammeron, V8, Renesongs, Joe Moore, Donovan Banks, Arno West, briang, PeteM, Alan Ratcliffe, Mixerboy, DrGonzo, G-man, doc-phil, Andrew J Bryson, Jayhell, Greg, CostaFonix, chris77 and many many more. I think they can all agree that the only way you get better is by producing more and more work. It doesn't matter if you have a million dollar studio or a simple phone recording, or if you have been playing guitar for 25 years or 25 minutes . . . those we enter (and others) always provide some constructive advice on how to get better (even if you have been playing 25 years haha). Again, I think many of the names mentioned above will say that in some way or another entering the competitions and receiving feedback has really helped them in many ways. Its not really a 'competition' anyway, you just feel good about yourself for entering, having something to add to your musical portfolio, and may even get featured in the hall of fame
So if you have time, do yourself a solid and enter ?

i noticed the update, adrian, and thanks muchly for undertaking the task. one thing that struck me in going through the hall of fame was not only the names up there, but the consistency of folks entering in the past. i hit a bit of a snag with getting my woodstock entry together, but thankfully this weekend is looking pretty empty and all should be done by the end of sunday.
really looking forward to getting it done and seeing who else put what out there

If you go back before the page you added, you will notice that there are a lot more "stellar" locals that were winning the Challenge back in the day ?

Yes of course, haha, there is PLENTY. You featured at least 10 times. I just mentioned the more recent ones as they still fresh in my head - so forgive me for that, but as Dom says, those folks who enter more consistently are more likely to get their names mentioned. But its not about the names, that's just a little victory

I did notice this in the week past - well done and thank you! I agree, the hall of fame is a fine thing to keep going and we know Ms Hammeron will concur... ?
Right-o, my entry for this month is in. Raw as **** - have no fear if your entry isn't perfect, I'm often told perfect is the enemy of good (not that mine is either!).
domhatch
mine is in too. no one laugh at my voice... ?
G-Man
I was hoping to keep quiet and then stealthily sneak one in while no one was looking but I am pretty guitar fatigued lately. I think it's all the covers I've been playing for the last year and a bit.
If I manage to sell my amp I will be buying a focusrite 2i2 and a decent set of monitors. (Hint hint)
Can't wait to hear what has been submitted. ?
