Don't you have any "brutalz" in you?
don't think my tele's are geared towards metal
I can't play metal to save my life. eish.
Listening to the samples, it's not complex though - just fast and heavy. It's not Dream Theatre. Ideal one to push yourself, enter as beginner and learn something in the process.
it's not the guitar parts that scare me in this challenge, it's the drums :-[

No one has corrected me on the 1 minute. Anyone who knows prog... one minute is 1/4 of an intro, pffft.

Miracles have happened with far less apparently... two fish and five loaves... or some such nonsense.

The time limit has been extended to 2 minutes some months ago already. The rules (http://www.guitarforum.co.za/monthly-competition/weekly-competition-rules-and-info/) has been updated accordingly also. So you can at least squeeze in 1/2 of an intro it seems ?

Oh ok, cool. I thought it had to be requested in the challenge. All good, thanks man. And come on dude... you can enter. All of you can enter... prog is just some other type of stuff you play to fill the space... donbescared
While a lot of modern Metal bands have progressive ellements to there music, I would hardly consider Arch Enemy Progressive metal, more like Melodic Death....
LOL. Typical arguments about the true definitions of metal subgenres to follow in 3... 2... 1...

If I may quote X-Rated Bob's post from the previous metal challenge:
X-rated Bob wrote: Ooohhh.... I can see all kinds of protests and disputes along the lines of
                        "That's not metal"
                        "Is so!"
                        "Even Lars wouldn't play THAT!"
                        "It IS metal"
"Well... hair metal, so it doesn't count"
                        etc
                        etc
... and his prediction took about 5 pages to come to pass. Let's see now ?
I have 4 half finished entries from previous months, lets see if I can muster up enough creativity for this one to complete it for a change.
Allright, I've got one for this one. Whether it's progressive or not, you be the judge.
                              mmm...

I am on leave next week... I am supposed to be sleeping all day to recover from overworking myself...lol...
I will do SOMETHING for this... the quality will prob be less than ideal... but hey... I will make do with what I have.
This will teach me something at least ?
So...I've been doing some googling around progressive metal... it seems like it means "different"...lol... basically?!

I have seen mention of 26 min songs... different time signatures... odd instruments... vocals including choirs...etc...
OMG!!! Now we are in my domain ?. Muhuhahahaha!!!! Very keen to see the other entries \m/

Good luck to you all ?

Mmmm to progress from the norm and be 'different'.
Then one of the best examples of Progressive Metal today must certainly be Celtic and Nordic folk Metal.
Bands like Korpiklaani, Sotuhatuu., Eluvietie, Ensiferum, Tyr, Turisas and the likes.
Having their basis in Thrash, Death and Speed Metal but introducing a whole range of odd instrumentation such as the Lute, Bagpipes, Harp, Hurdy Gurdy and Piano Accordion and in this way progressing from the norm.
And what is really cool is that these instruments often bring the female ellement with them which I dig.
Having Irish and Welsh blood in me often brings out a Celtic feel in my playing and as a result I have always been fond of this Genre.
However, being a progressively different guitarist is yet another story perhaps.

I played the melody to a Celine Dion song in church one night instead of the correct riff for a song our worship team wrote... does that make me progressive? lol
