So, yesterday my wife, my brother in-law and I went through to Marshall Music woodmead. They've recently bought out all the stock from Global music durban, so a whole bunch of Yamaha, Crate, Ampeg etc gear. i'm looking around while my brother in law is trying a looper, and I notice this in the rear of one of the amps:
I nearly stop in my tracks, realising that's a TONE TUBBY! And the amp in question is one of the USA made, pre Loud Technologies buyout, Obeid Khan designed V50s! (As used on the 2006 Crossroads tour by Joe Walsh, ZZ Top (? yeah, I'm sure the JMP-1 wasn't plugged in side stage... NOT), Robert Randolph etc. I wheel it in to the private room and fire it up.
DAMN!!! This thing sounds! Great cleans, great drive, decent FX and EL34 power amp with 2x12" tone tubby hempcone speakers. In fact, I even draw a small crowd asking "What the hell amp is that?!?"
While I'm playing, my wife ducks out to get something from the car. A few minutes later, Stuart (our salesman) comes in to tell me the amp has been sold. I'm crestfallen..... Until my wife pulls out the receipt.
Hehehe, below is the amp with the tele she bought me previously. No. She doesn't have a sister. Yes, she likes P90's. Apparently she says a need 335 next.
