Hi Everyone
Just wanted to know if there are any OPETH Fans on this forum.
They are my favourite band of all time.
I was just listening to some of their stuff and just realised and appreciated how brilliant their music is.
Well thats all
Please share your thoughts and comments ?
    Best metal band ever. Period.

Mikael Akerfeld (sic) has the both the best cleans and growls in the industry in my opinion, and he switches between the two effortlessly.

Only thing is I haven't liked what I've heard so far of the new Heritage album ☹ However I need to listen to more tracks before I pass judgement.

I like Opeth quite a bit as well, except honestly I wish they would stick to doing stuff like the new album and Damnation...The moment the death metal growls come in I just can't enjoy it anymore, I honestly wish that Mikael Akerfeldt (spelling?) would just stick to clean vocals all the time ?

I realise that goes against why so many people herald them in the metal world, but I don't really think I count as a metalhead so ?
100% pure quality act. Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries are the highlights for me. Morningrise too actually, except the low budget production means I don't listen to it much.

Oh and Roundhouse Tapes. Hearing them live put new life into many of those songs.

Something I especially like about them is their style of riffing and music is nothing like what I'm interested in doing. Therefore one of the very few metal bands I just listen to, not subconsciously analyze.

        alhead so ?
        Shuddup, *fusion* guitarist!!! ?

Seriously, I'm glad that's not the case. Blackwater Park without the growls.... can't imagine it would be as interesting. But hey, different tastes.
          OPETH!!! Yes please.
Hell yes! No 1 Opeth Fan here... Like seriously, Die Hard!
I dont have any no 1 favourite band, just like I dont have any BFF (best friends forever!!) but they are definatley up there ?

Got into opeth recently. My old drummer saw them live. ???
Might not be as big as L.O.G commercially but in terms of respect they're getting I'll say it's on the same level if not more than L.O.G etc. Aekerfeldt's growls are badass, no other way to put it really, the cleans are the cherry on top, just adds that extra bit of awesomeness.
As mentioned the riffs are unique, usage of altered chords as opposed to merely using power chords, ambience all add to their unique sound.

One of my favourite things about this band is they can still be metal without the stereotypical "evil" lyrics, damn, he can growl about bees and daisies and it will still sound metal. ?
                  Got the Deliverance Album

Dig their tribute to Genesis on "For Absent Friends", really enjoy the guitar tone
So what's the deal with the latest album, anyone got it? Sounds like 70s prog or something? I'll probably sit this one out, usually skip their low metal content albums.

Yeah, from the one or two songs I've heard of the new album I am completely disappointed. Unless and until the it grows on me I am just gonna pretend it doesn't exist.

I have just bought "Heritage" and it is definatley a different "Opeth" that I'm used to.
The only songs that i really like on the album is "The Devils Orchard" and "I Feel the Dark".
But I am listening to it everyday in the car and I am becoming fond of the 70's kinda prog influences. ?
So thats what I have to say about the new album. I'm going to go and listen to "Blackwater Park" now.
Oh and also to add..............This is my 250th post. That means that I am now a "FULL MEMBER OF GFSA"

Wahoo, good stuff on your 250th

Does Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree) produce this album, this just might be up my street with the 70's prog influence.

Yep Steve Wilson at the helms of production...

Give the album a chance - I remember the first time i heard opeth i wasnt impressed at all, after a couple of listens they fast became my ultimate favourtie band!
                              Yip
Steve Wilson did indeed produce this album. ?
Its a definate must have for 70's prog fans
