Hi Guys

What metal bands should I look out for? Was kind of introduced to Trivium but get irritated when vocalist can't pitch properly when screaming. Was also introduced to Dragonforce but too monotonous.

Conrad
OPETH!!! If u should check any band first check Opeth.
I'm not that big into modern metal stuff, but I really enjoy Bullet For My Valentine. Good playing/melodies/vocals and no icantunderstandawordheissaying screaming. Coheed and Cambria is also good, but maybe more prog-rock than metal.

And I always mention Avenged Sevenfold as well of course.

Yeah +1 on Opeth, Probably my biggest most influential band lately.

Gojira - French band, Genre is very undefineable. the tightest band on EARTH (bold statement but I'm sticking to it ?)

Mastodon - Might take a while to get used to the vocals if you think Trivium scream off pitch lol Although this is the style they go for, "sludge vocals". Sludge Metal being their previous genre.
Ye agree with dean there Gojira have some awesome stuff, From mars to Sirius is an excellent album, also check bands like Daylight dies - doom melodic death metal. Katatonia - more of the calm side but great stuff none the less.
Definitely Opeth aswell , The new Album Watershed is a good place to begin. The older albums might scare you of them.
              Gojira is very tight yes...
Go check out the band "symphony X", they're my favourite, i listened to their album"Paradise lost " for 2 months straight without getting bored.

Very talented musos and great vocalist, kind a proggresive power metal genre.

                Here is their myspace:

I'm a BIG, BIG symphony X fan. They are just FANTASTIC. I have the Odyssey, Divine wings of tragedy and Paradise lost. They made a great impact on me.

Thank you. I suppose I am more of a prog and neo classical person than a metal person. Anyone here into prog / neo classical? Please do not stone me ☹

Necrophagist have a pretty big neo classical influence but it's Tech Death.
                              @ Conrad

Are you turned off by metal that has screaming vocals ? Sadly that is the biggest cause of people not liking metal lately.
The thing that turns me off metal honestly is the abundance of consistency and lack of dynamics.

Bands like Beneath the Massacre where the drummer has absolutely no feel and every hit sounds like the same velocity. Too mechanical.
Divine Heresy is up there as well as Fear Factory and Machine Head and well..dragon force.

Metal bands that have over enough feel in their music that I find are the only metal bands i can listen to.
                                Opeth
Behemoth <---some might disagree but for the latest album, everything except the kick isn't triggered. So what he hit..you hear.
                                Gojira
                                Mastodon.

There are others but I'm being specific (or am I)

I find myself listening to Jazzier music more.
                                Pat Metheny
                                Guthrie Govan etc
                                Tons of feel ?

No I wouldn't say that is it I mean I am a HUGE Devin Townsend fan and he screams ALOT. I am now listening to his "Ziltoid the Omniscient" and I love that. I am not big on death vocals I would say. I think what I am always looking out for is LOTS of innovation on harmony, melody and time signature. That really attracts me and alot of metal bands seem to lack those elements (and that is not wrong, it's just not my thing). I dunno, does that make sense?

                                  Conrad
Definitely Opeth. Nice clean vocals and death vocals... Plus they mix the two perfectly as in " Masters Apprentice".
SacriFist- Melodic death metal. Awesome band and they SA.
                                      They are AWESOME!!! 8)

Opeth are masters of all! They have such a great composition.

I buy alot of Metal mags, and the cd's that come with em are pretty decent. Metal Hammer always puts a smile on my face! ?

Amorphis is a new favourite of mine, give their album "silent waters" a listen!

If you are a fan of the more Death Metal sound, check out the SA band Child! I quite like them!

Betray The Emissary is also pretty good if you like the screamo style of metal. 8)
