Hi Guys

Have any of you out there in guitar land ever heard of a player called Mauritz Lotz.

I picked up a single off the radio in .....um....94/95 called Groove 247...

Havent seen or heard of him since.

Any Ideas????
Also....who are your fav Sa players.

Jimmy dludlu is on my list
Cant remember his name right now.But he plays an awesome acoustic set, flamenco style, has a grey pony tail...
    Kevin or keith ...

    anyways..let me know...if you do..
Mauritz lotz is a very famous guitarist in music industry, he mainly plays session stuff now for kurt darren, junita du plessis, theuns jordaan and all commercial afrikaans singers.

If you listen to a afrikaans radio station, he is playng most of the songs on guitar.

Dont know why he stopped doing the instrumental guitar thing.

PS: my favourite would be guy buttery, a really nice guy.
Lotz is a fantastic guitarist! I have his "EarthTones" album. If you like blues, check out Dan Patlansky. If you like great acoustic work, check out Tony Cox & Steve Newman and CH2.

Does anybody know some of the local guys such as Steve Newman, Tony Cox and Mauritz Lotz personally? It would be great to have them on this forum - unless of course they're already here under pseudonyms...
Give that man a nestle chocalate!!

Went and watched a set last year with Steve Newman and Tony Cox in a small restaurant in Somerset West.

That's where I first heard his stuff...Tony Cox had an acostic bass with perlemoen inlays on the fret board.

              Thanks for that Riaan!! ?

I don't know them personally but they are all really nice guys. They answer emails nicely anyway LOL. Maybe we should invite them.

I reckon they might too busy practising!
Or rather smoking some wacky tabacky of some sort... ?
Jimmy Dludlu is awesome and so is Dan Patlansky ?
My cousin Richard Onraet has gigged with Tony Cox in CT and around the Natal area. he kicks ass on accoustic, and he's a mad drummer too. he's only 18 and his future seems to be very bright. i told him about the forum, but i don't think he's on line much.

Saw them play a magical set in the whale exhibition pit in the SA Museum in Cape Town. For those of you who know the setting, you can imagine that was just an exhilirating experience. Pure magic. Attended a workshop given by Tony Cox, and found him to be just a down to earth great guy.

For those who don't know Newman, do yourself a favour and pick up any Tananas album. Great introduction to his style (which is so unique).
I once saw a concert many years ago with Mauritz Lotz and Shawn Philips. I thought it was out of this world.

Anybody got the Piet Botha & Jack Hammer CD, Highway 13. He is a pretty accomplished guitarist himself. Not shredding stuff, but rather tastefull folk-rock style. Really worth a buy.
                              Anyone heard of Sean Mercer?

I went to his site. Thanks for the link. Not bad eh... It makes me sad that SA guitarists get so little credit.

It is a pity, and we have some wicked good guitarists in SA. A good example is Jaun "Floors" Oosthuizen.

Yes he was at Pretoria Tech music school. Apparently a brilliant guitarist.
