TJs open mic night - Thursday 26th August

This is TJs monthly open mic session.

Venue: Marks Park sports club, Judith Road, Emmarentia, Johannesburg
Time: Music starts at 20:00
Admission: R20

Meals and drinks can be ordered from the Marks Park club stuff.

TJs provide PA and microphones, and also stomp box pre-amps for people who have passive pickups fitted to their guitars.

The host is Mike Burger, who occasionally pops in to this forum. Mike is a very fine fingerstyle player. He has asked me to open the evening with him, so we'll be doing a few songs to kick proceedings off.

If you want to dip a toe into the stream of live performance this is an excellent opportunity. The audience is warm and encouraging, and the room used is smaller and cozier than the big main room TJs use for their other shows.

Well Mike is a great guy to play with (keep it down in the back of the class!). He has a knack of coming up with a part that supports and complements whatever the other person is playing. Plus he's a great SOUNDING player. So it's fun for me.

Played guitar today for the first time since the 11 August. Amazing how rusty you can become!

I never ever thought that anything would keep me from playing guitar, but a bit of surgery, pethidene and blood transfusion has had me floored for a while ?

The first slot is usually reserved for whoever is hosting the evening. But as Squonk says there is a board marked out in 15 minute "slots" and they're taken on a first come, first served basis. TJs prioritise new comers.
