  • David Gilmour - Remember that Night

I bought this at Amanzimtoti's Galleria shopping centre Checkers hyper for R90.00!!!

Just want to mention his tone, I'm convinced it's in his fingers. He mostly plays a Fender Strat but he also has a go on a Gretsch(Not too sure of the model) and you can hear it's Gilmour on the first note...
His string bending completely melts my cheese, I can bend notes but not without brushing against the other strings, I am sure there is an art to this and plenty of practice!!
I finally understand why Strat and many others rate the solo in "comfortably numb", the buildup and the drama and the emotion just made me realize that it's a lot more than technique and speed.

I loved the backing vocals of Dave Crosby and Graham Nash, and they do an excellent "Find the cost of freedom" with Gilmour.

Brilliant concert , although I have never seen "Pulse" or any of the other Gilmour live concerts, so I cant compare?

Good Stuff

When the hang were you in Durban?
There's a couple of Syd Barrett compositions on the disk. Gilmour used to take some lengths to ensure that Syd got representation on DVDs and compilations so that he could contiune to get royalties. Nice touch.

Don I was a bit more down the coast in Scottburgh for just over 3 weeks but didn't have much internet connection.
Visted the Fan Park on the Beachfront for the Spain vs Germany game, Durban was very impressive!

Good stuff on Dave Gilmour for doing this, I haven't tried the second disc yet, Bowie sings "Arnold Layne" on the first disc and does a reasonable job although he struggles a bit with "Comfortably Numb"

Bowie also did a reasonable version of "See Emily Play" on the "Pin-Ups" Album!
Mr Gilmour's guitaring gives me goosbumps... ???
Even as an older oomie watch him play Shine On You Crazy Diamond in the opening sequence of his Meltdown Concert.
Just him and an acoustic guitar... and I get goosebumps... ?

Backing vocals on "On An Island" by Graham Nash and David Crosby... :applause: two of my favourites.
He's probably the reason why I took up the guitar in the first place.

Plus 1...he's the only reason I took up guitar. ?

I watch the "Pulse" DVD every week without fail.
Sometimes I decide to just watch one song, but I end up watching the entire DVD all over again...it's magical stuff.

My brothers a lucky man, he was at the Pulse concert twice in Los Angeles.

The David Gilmour Live and the Making of Dark Side of the moon DVD's are also two of my favourites.

That's the thing with DG. I remember reading a quote of his, along the lines of "the more I play, the more I sound like myself" or something to that effect. It must all be in the hands, the choice of notes and his particular brand of blues based playing. The intricate effects are there to serve a specific purpose in a given piece of music, but with or without that, it's still unmistakingly Gilmour. The longer I play, or rather try to... :-[...the more I realise what an achievement as a guitarist that must be, to develop your own style and sound good, but to above all "sound like yourself".
