  • TJs Acoustic Music Club - open mic night - March 25th

TJs are hosting their monthly open mic night on Thursday 25th.

Venue: Marks Park Club, Judith Road, Emmarentia, Johannesburg
Time: Music starts at 20:00, doors open at 19:30
Admission: R20

Pub grub and drinks can be ordered from the Marks Park staff.

TJs provide PA and mics. You need to bring along your instrument and yourself (or even just yourself if you want to do an accapella spot).

I will be there but won't be playing (for a change).

This is a supportive environment in a small, cozy room. TJs want to make new friends. Come along!

So the GFSA contingent at TJs tonight was
    • Conrad and Letitia - who played
    • Lethe
    • Lawrence
    • Keira
    • X-Rated Bob - who did not expect to play but got roped in
    • Fingerpicker - who borrowed my guitar
As always it was great to meet everybody.

Conrad and Letitia are working up a good thing. They have an interesting sound. I hope they enjoyed themselves. TJs enjoyed their performance.
yeah i could only stay to see conrad and letitia do their flamenco thing, as i had to attend a cd launch last night ........ but it was worth the short stop cos i loved it, and mostly enjoyed the fact that they doing "original compositions" which are sounding well structured and cleverly crafted......... the originality really scores big points from my perspective...... so yeah true artists ...... and yes they are working on a cd ...so very promising ...as i mention every now and again the acoustic scene in jhb is truly growing and the standard of talent and creativity and most importantly originality is very high in the acoustic scene and growing ........

well done to conrad and letitia...
        :-[ Goodness. Thanks guys....

Yes we loved it! We were home just before 12 and i was tired but so psyched up that I couldn't sleep so I sucked at work the next day.

And fingerpicker does a cool bouncy, bouncy thing when he plays ?

I hate that, but it's almost unavoidable, for me.

Exactly...the adrenalin doesn't stop pumping till the next morning and then I'm FLAT!
I keep on hearing about all the events one day after it happens.

I want to start to have a life and join one of these, even if only listening and cheering. Is it happening every month? Any indication of what days every month?

Last thursday of the month - unless there's a clash with a major public holiday.

Next open mic night at TJs is April 29th
Sounds good. I'll meet you soon at your get together and then you can decide if still want to have me there ?

Uh oh... you just scared the Bob ?

Sir, you don't need my permission or consent. And as I have told people before, it is unlikely that you will be the least talented and least prepared person to get up on that particular stage.
                        @ Seph

I got away with it and I am far from being a good player. I just made up my mind, Practised some songs and followed a lot of advice that was on the Forum.

And remember it is an Open Mic night, the crowd at TJ's are there to encourage and make you feel at home. Dont worry about anyone else, the night that I was on, Steve Newman was on the bill and in the audience. On the other end of the scale, one performer requested help tuning his guitar and got quite lost during his performance.

But once you are up there, the adrenalin will carry you through.

                        Go ahead take the leap.....
