Create your own version of a cult Movie Theme Song:
We are focusing on the melody really, but you are allowed to add your own chord progressions/ beats
to make it interesting.
Some ideas include : Top Gun, Jurassic Park, Rocky, Pulp Fiction, Armageddon, Fight Club
Entries to be PMed to me before sunset next Monday Please PM the category you wish to be entered under in your PM to me otherwise I will have PMT (Petulant Moderator Tantrum)
this sounds like my kind of game.

will try my best to make deadline.
kick-ass theme... who made it? :-[

I will try my best not to forgot to rename my mp3 as : AJB_Advanced/Novice_Movie

I will also try my best not to go for Rocky - Eye of the Tiger. lol
        Just up your street AJB?
But this is a good one, more than just guitar skills!
yea the idea here is to play to make the song your own ...

in other words, you don't have to play the melody note-for-note.

you can kinda play enough notes for it to be recognized ,and then go into your own thing.

this will also challenge a a few to actually work out a theme by ear, which is great ear training.

remember , if you can hum it, you can play it.
This is a nice one...time for me to try again!
are we going to have a time/track limit to this?

I think it'd pay to point out that entrants are allowed (as I understand it) to rework a classic film's theme song/melody, rather than come up with a whole new song that sounds like a classic film theme tune...
that is correct... although if you feeling creative and want to come up with your own composition, that's cool,
but doubt anybody will recognize it.

The topic invites you to transgress one rule of the competition namely that it has to be your own composition.
I personally don't see how it we going to be able to work in four tracks or less on a movie theme so that's another rule down. So why get sticky and enforce the time barrier. Just be aware that some of our members the have little or no bandwidth (welcome to South Africa) and will avoid even listening to your entry if the file size is too big i.e. more than a Meg or so LOL ?

I don't want to put a damper on things but won't we be transgressing the copyright rule if we copy a melody line?

I'm no expert on matters legal, but isn't it OK if one acknowledged openly that your tune is "based on/inspired by/a rework of the composition by so-and-so" and clearly not presented as your own composition? Especially if there's no financial gain? Maybe Riaan C can help.

It's not so much about the individual infringing but rather that GFSA.co.za will be publishing it on the internet. But that's up to Alan and Norio I suppose.
PeteM has a good point. I didn't actually think about this when I made the Topic.

No offence taken , if the admin's want to change it.

I do have a backup Theme.
GFSA - is a club / group / society not for profit, it has no legal persona or assets it it not even a section 21 company so good luck to anyone trying to sue all the individual members collectivly it would be like trying to sue Pirate Bay LOL ?
It's OK, we'll give the original composers 100% of the profits earned by the covers of their tracks here. Can't be any fairer than that. ?

John Williams doesn't yet know it, but he might be a free set of strings richer... ?
John Williams.... Do I smell the Deer Hunter Theme ??? ?
