This is NOT an open mic night.

Margaret's Daughter (acoustic rock duo)
The Black Hats (Mike "Chappie" Sadie plus a violin player)
X-Rated Bob (ahem!)

I will be on early - 4 songs with Hugh, John and Co backing me.
Are you doing any of your own songs, Bob?

Maybe someone could record the show and post a few things on the forum.

Not at this point. The set list may still change. I need to get off my lazy arse and finish one of the things.

I'd need to run that past TJs and the other artists - one of whom (Margaret's Daughter) has 2 CDs out.

I can't stop anybody doing their own thing with a cell phone or digital camera, but if I can get official sanction then it might be possible to get a feed from the desk.
well it seems GFSA members are making a strong showing at TJ's cos on the 18th ... myself and fingerpicker and my vocalist alicia will be performing .. with some other invited musicians......seems that evening will be jazz based and organised by none other than fingerpicker........

so yeah we'll all be supporting bob on the 4th and jazz ing it up at TJ's on 18th again ...

i'm sure fingerpicker will post about his show the 18 th soon.....

so gfsa is really starting to make it's presence felt

          That's 18th MARCH?

Hey Y'all, don't come just for me :-[ There are other people on the bill. Blackhats and Margeret's Daughter are well worth seeing - in fact just those two give you more than your money's worth.

I'm just the serviette beneath the crust, beneath the cake, beneath the icing, beneath the cherrry... or something like that.

              yes 18th march .....

yeah i hope i can make it on the 4th as i'd love to see your (thats you Bob) collaboration with hugh and john ..... mmm and don't understate your talent... since if you were the "mere serviete under the crust " as you quoted .......... you would not be playing next to someone like john van nierop ....... that i am sure of....... ?
He's just worried that everyone's going to be sitting around waiting for him... too much pressure ?
This was posted on the other thread (open mic) as well... Just in case you missed it.

Congratulations Bob, I'm sure you will add to the show with your extensive knowledge of the music both acoustic and electric.

I collected my bounced Taylor from Andy and it is as good as new. In the process I took pity on a Larrivee LV-09 that was being murdered by an enthusiastic strummer in the sound room. I will post a picture shortly.

I guess I will use the Taylor (the ballerina) for close quarter combat at the open mic night, the Koa LV 10 when I play with a group (because of the strong midrange) and the LV 09 (Sitka and Indian Rosewood) when I play on my own on the main stage at TJs. The fuller tone of the LV 09 is a really complete sound.

I am running the March 18 event at TJs and will post the details later It will be a mixture of flamenco and Jazz from Keira and Alicia, Jeff Dix with some vicious fretwork, The Cellphone Cowboys playing low down swamp music combined with Latin American jazz ,either with Nylon string guitar or keyboards. I have an old varsity friend coming up from Durbs who plays the Jazz circuit and has produced a few Jazz/ Latin CDs. Them Particles will hopefully close the evening with their mesmeric sound. One slot still has to be filled, maybe Bob wants to make his first solo appearance on the main stage?

This is a strong bill. Jeff Dix is a pretty handy player, Them Particles are a fab live act with great groove, and y'all know how good Keira is.

You won't find better value for your money. Unless you're married to Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck is coming around for a brewski and a jam that night.

Not many of us fall into the latter category.

Probably not nearly as fun as it sounds ☹

If you're prepared to double the fee then we have a deal.

Yeah. Bad example. All those arguments over who pinched whose ideas.

Joe Satriani with Coldplay coming around for a cold one?
Mika and the Parlotones popping in for a cold one should also be quite interesting espeicially if the guitarist has an Ibanez!

I kind of meant being married to Jimmy Page ?

Ack! I meant stick another zero on the end.

And my wife gets her usual commission.

                                    Bloody awful!

The audience all got up, took off their shoes, threw us people up on the stage with said shoes and then started chanting
                                    "Who do we want?"
                                    "DAVE!"
                                    "When do we want him?"
                                    "NOW!"

                                    What chance did I have?
Seriously, it went OK. We'd done a lot of preparation before hand - including deciding who was going to be where on the stage - so I felt more relaxed than usual. Also they put Scott (the mandolin player) on my right so I played a bum note I could just shoot him a filthy look and the audience would know who was at fault.

I played slide! In front of people! Got away with it too.

During our last rehearsal Hugh (Cumming of Hugh's Fine Guitars, the host/bandleader) had been corpsing me in the last rehearsal we did. I figured if I could take that I was prepared for anything. Then just before my last number they pulled a gorilla costume out!

The night was a pretty good one. Little Black Hats did an excellent set. Their timing was really good (timing is important!) and they had great dynamics, building up to some real power with just two (sometimes one) acoustic guitars and a violin.
