+1 on Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce! Super-fast Nintendo TV game/ 80's arcade game music Power Metal! Not my favourite music, but still very impressive from a technical point of view and enjoyable in short stretches.

Herman Li is said to be, note for note, one of the fastest guitarists in the world. Don't know if that's true or not, but he really does play uber-fast!

I think Children of Bodom is overally a better band (the drummer is very, very good for one) than Dragonforce though, so I prefer them. I'm not really a total metal head, but I do still listen to metal so I suppose I can comment.
Wow I tottally forgot about Micheal Amott,My favorite arch enemy song is Ravenous!

Children of Bodom used to be my favorite band but their latets album was a dissapointment.Non of the magic of the old stuff.

Probaply the best young guitarist in metal now is Mat heafy,Ascendancy is one of my favorite albums of all time. The band went a little bit gay with all the clean vocals on the Crusade their new album
Well this happens to most bands, there first 2 albums is kick ass, and then go commercial and make money after that, and not long they break up and form a new band to start over again.
I loved Children of Bodom between the period of 1997 - 2000.
In no particular order, just adding as we go along.

Not as 'new' but respect to Brett Gurewitz and Brian Baker from Bad Religion.
what about James Hatfield(metallica) His got a lot of influence towards other guitarists.
Not Mr Hetfield so much but definitely Kirk Hammet ?

Kirk Hammet was lucky enough to take private guitar lessons with Joe Satriana
Well if we're going to go as far back as Metallica, one can't ignore James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins fame. But then again many good guitarists were doing the rounds at the time (late 80's, early 90's) - think Slash here...

I'm halfway through reading his autobiography now...awesome read, well worth it and really scary!
Back to topic (as such), another noteworthy mention has to go out to Russell Lissack from Bloc Party. His pieces on Hunting for Witches really tickle me.

The last question and answer really frustrates me!!! ?

                                    Kevin Wasserman? Noodles?

I don't know about that one. Good, but not great. His playing is effective but I don't know... I don't regard him as a fretboard genius.
Well I don't think he's a shredd Mister, but he is king of punk IMO or at least a baron. ?
I'm going to go with a Baron on that one... ?

And here's where i'm going to fall on my sword - Punk guitarists on a whole are less... what's the word I'm looking for... technical?

Punk is best and most effective when it's a simple 3 or 4 chord, power chord riff. Combine it with, as my punk-hating work colleague would say, angry 14 year old drummer on speed and you have a recipe for the masses.

Do give you a disappointing idea of how easy punk is, go here and play with this: Punk-o-matic
