yes a great price.....no denying that ..... and a great collectors item if it's original they were classics back in the day and a big part of musical history

but for a present day player/ gig guitarist who really these days wants a JC120 .they big and really heavy , and are solid state .......so NOT a valve classic ...... and does a very sterile clean very well but thats it .... not versatile there are better /lighter/transportable more versatile solid state amps on the market if you need one for gigs/performances

Come past and play mine ? You will like it.

Big and heavy, yes, but so are luxury automobiles.

solid state, so very reliable and doesn't need special care (I have heard stories of these amps falling off of trucks at speed - the enclosure got damaged but they could be plugged in and still worked!)

If you are not particular about valve tone in a live setting, the JC120 is one of the most versatile amps out there. Since it is so clean and doesn't effect the signal too much, it works very well with modeling type pedals or spacey/synth effects and really brings out the best (and worst) in your guitar and effects.

I have seen electric violinists, harmonica players and even a rap artist (I hate rap) use these amps to great success. I think Conrad also saw a violin duo using them.

If you think about the amp as a reliable 120W stereo PA in a box with wheels it suddenly becomes very attractive.

It has a stereo effects loop (later models only) that makes for great fun with stereo panning effects.

It is a proper two channel - you can have two guitarists play through it at once or one guitar and another instrument - each channel has its own EQ and volume etc. It even sounds pretty decent with acoustic guitars IMO.

It is solid state so I can practice softly late at night then break windows the next day without changing the tone.

Drawbacks? It is squeaky clean - any high frequency sounds come through so some guitars sound harsh, but EQ can fix that. It doesn't really have any character, but I didn't buy it for that anyway...

Oh and the built in "distortion" is more like overdrive played through a shower radio trying to receive an AM radio station. It is almost as though they put in the effect as a joke - something Jazz guitarists could activate to show people that clean sounds are better than distorted ones so jazz is better than rock. Or something like that...

    Well that's my story ?

        ? I'm tempted LOL !

This one needs a lot of TLC unfortunately, but could make a nice long-term project.
Vic rather buy my mint one, it only needs one speaker. ?
The AC30 on Gumtree is not in good shape at all (inside and outside) and will cost a lot to fix...so the asking price of R9000 will have to be substantially reduced to make it a worthwhile project.
