sometimes the best practice or thing you can do is to just leave the guitars for a while.. then come back to it a month or so later and you will suddenly find you have improved.
life will always get in the way.. but then lifer will also make gaps again sooner or later.
i have 3 "playing stations" - a guitar, an amp and a simple looper in my study in the house, for when I do get a chance to sit fro 30 minutes or so in front of my computer in the evenings, or by waking up at 6am weekends, giving me 2 hours or so before the family wakes up, then i can noodle while i work on the computer..
i have the more serious setup in my man cave out back of the house, and i go there sometimes when i want to try be a bit more serous about playing on the guitar,.
and then i have a guitar upstairs in the bedroom next to the bed.. when we go to bed and watch some tv, i just reach across and sit up in bed just noodling scales or something without even thinking about it..
hope you find some time to play again.. if not.. we will be watching the classifieds with great interest..
sorry.. but i have THE TOP worse guitar paint job of all time.....................
sadly i dont have a pic.. just the story...
a mates dad owned a genuine 1963 Fender strat - worth about R350,000 today!!!
his dad didnt liek the road worn look it was developing.. so he sanded it down and painted it green using some 2K automotive paints... end result, the guitar lost R300,000 in value!!!
enough to make me cry..
my first upload here...
so maybe this gets disqualified, as technically its 2 tracks (one drum track and one guitar track) but as I recorded this off a looper pedal I will stand in front of a judge and argue its recorded as one track!
theme music usually played on a theremin...
while he certainly is an exceptional talent on a guitar, i wish he would mix it up a bit.. not everything has to be played at a volume level of 13 and most of the stuff he plays is identical to the song before...
these "of all time" type lists are always a a joke.. it shoudl always be followed with .." in my opinion from the following genre that have received a certain percentage of air time and popularity.."
or say " from my list of CD's..".."
guyfeld thats a massive pity... id say you were the BEST dire straits tribute band.. at the start of the show i thought you guys were just syncing.. it was as close to seeing them live as i will ever get..
dont you ever play in the southern suburbs?? we out in fish hoek.. that trek to somerset west is a tad to epic at night ..
or if you ever in the city during the day, let me know,, gladly sponsor you a lunch time coffee and sandwich . i know how you struggling musicians are to cheap to buy your own.. seriously.. Id love a chance to meet and hear a story of 2..
can contact me on 0 8 three 7 nine 9 6 four 5 ate
guyfeld being a child of the 80's and still a massive knopfler fan, we went to one of the gigs you did at the Baxter.. not sure how many nights you played but me and a mate went to your first night..
you probably wont remember, but we sat in the very first row, right in front of you.. and i| cant recall which song it was but as you were doing the intro solo, me and my mate shouted out "we love you Mark..!".. you packed out laughing, stopped the song and had to restart it again..
without a doubt.. Best. Show. Ever.
i regularly google to see if you doing one again.. id be there in a flash if you did..
you still based in cape town?
NorioDS and just to clarify, i am not talking musical ability..
if @guyfeld is the Guy I am thinking of, he is pretty shiitte hot on guitar.. !
its the pathetic lyrical attempts of most south africans.. take a gander on youtube of some of the '80's "stars" trying to revive their careers... scary stuff how they feel the last word of every sentence must rhyme like a grade 6 poetry class.
guyfeld i get what you saying..
what really REALLY puts me off south african songwriters, is the fact that they all seem to used the exact same Grade 6 Rhyming dictionary to write their lyrics. its awful to be that predictable..
at the risk of getting banned from this site for daring to say what i am about to say.. Tony Cox.. my goodness... last week driving to work they played something of him playing and singing.. one of the most awful things I have ever heard..
seemed like a typical 12 bar blues number he was playing, but whoever told him he could sing or write lyrics was really just having him on..
so never mind musical composition - the really poor song writing ability of south african musicians is why I dont have any favorites.
I was prompted to write this on here after watching a really interesting Youtube doccie done by Chris Rea on the fender Stratocaster.
I learnt something new that was previously unkown to m (obviously!)
He suggested to maintain clean tones on a strats single coils, never turn the volume up past 8. As between volume 8 – 10 single coils start to break up.
Turn your volume knob to 10, and make a small mark on your scratch plate next to the 10, and then dial it back to 8 and that’s where you keep it.
I then went on try this on 4 different strats, all with different pickups in them and true as nuts, he was right!! After the volume passes 8 you start to get the broken up distortion effect.
I now make sure I never go past 8, which has given me much better tone control when using pedals and other devices…
Go try it and see if it has the same affect for you.

andresound is it wrong of me to be feeling this aroused right now???
andresound bliksem.. you are teasing me.. that wood looks do deliciously aged.... damn !@!
no price??? or am i blind ?
i have always held the opinion that fender make pretty shiitee acoustics.. but i must be honest, thats one fine looking piece of shiiitte Id like to own.
its always fun until someone puts an eye out!!
thinking about this some more..
you need separate songs thats traditionally been played on both headstocks..
so , again, my song nomination for the hockey stick heads - pearl jam Yellow better,
and a song for the pointy heads - ...well.... uhm.... just bang out a E chord repeatedly, with volume, overdrive and distortion set on 12.. thats abouts covers all that pointy heads are good for.
you both doing a version of each, and the winner is chosen.
pearl jam - yellow leadbetter.
in nominating that, V8 has already one.. Norio - we wait your loser video.
