I agree...Keep it to both electrics and acoustics....a lot will be interested in both.Gearhead wrote:Nope - too many acoustic and 'both' players there.JK wrote: I suggest we keep it electric guitars only. Floyd rose bridges are up to you really- i dont have one so i am cool
Short of guitars though if everyone thinks they should leave theirs at home since they're all sorted![]()
Who's interested in a GFSA Joburg setup workshop?
Noooo no no no. I'll definitely bring a guitar if it will help the cause?Gearhead wrote:Nope - too many acoustic and 'both' players there.JK wrote: I suggest we keep it electric guitars only. Floyd rose bridges are up to you really- i dont have one so i am cool

I got:
Yamaha Pacifica 012 with strat style trem (Been setup by a pro though)
Cort MR-710F acoustic (Also been tweaked by a pro though on day of purchase)
Squier Tele Custom with strat style fixed bridge (This one hasn't seen setup hands though so would be my first choice)
I can also check with Nita if she maybe wants to take her Cort X-4 electric, also has a strat style trem with dual buckers. Never seen setup hands.
Update: we have found someone willing and able to do the teaching: none less than Andy McGibbon 8)
As soon as I get back to SA I will go meet with him to discuss the setup (of the evening, not the guitars); meanwhile you guys still need to help with finding a venue. And sign up ?

I'm interested, now that Andy is probably the only guitar tech in Joburg I haven't tried yet, in my search to get my Japanese Strat set up properly. I hope all you guys are OK with me crying openly in public.

Yup, was at the gettogether. I'm in!

Wow, Richard_... That essentially means you came to the get-together before you even joined the site. Kudos for being a go-getter! ?

So, is there any news on this?
I'm also definitely in. Don't know anyone better than Andy to do the workshop. The man is a genius.
Why can't we hold it at his shop? or is it too small?

I'd say chances are that on the (first?) night in question about a dozen of these people will be able to make it. I will ask Andy if he has space available for that many, since NONE of you guys have made ANY suggestions
As promised I will meet with Andy asap and go over the programme so a) everyone can know upfront what to expect, b) we do not run out of time and c) we have all we need in terms of demonstrations / diagrams / etc. Will report back in this thread.

I would really like to go, but my schedule is pretty hectic so maybe put my name down tentatively?
20.001 MikeM (?) ?
Maybe you should just try a little harder to MAKE time. Whatsdaword? "Nothing worth doing in life comes easy"?

Yea, my degree is pretty tough ?
It all depends when it is. If it's a weekend I'm 90% there. Weekdays are a little more hectic cause every now and again life goes mad (I.e from sunday... Haven't been to bed before 3am... so far, and I wake up @ 7am every day).
Need to chat to you about making a cab ?
