The body can still pass as a relic job but that headstock looks really bad!
Why do people butcher guitars like this ?
blood_bought Yeah, that is not pretty. A couple warning signs on this one - not strung up, it's a dealer and the price is low for something with stainless frets, that alone is a 3-4k job. I suspect that the fret job isn't great, and I ain't volunteering to level and crown stainless frets - though, it's a job you'd only need to do once.
What get's me about most relics is that sanding smooths out the line between paint & wood, for me it's gotta look like it's been chipped away by microscopic piece by piece over the decades - it's really tough to get looking like it took years and not 15min with a orbital.
And that guitar has been on GT for a while, just gets reposted every now and then.
I suspect that butchered headstock is a big put off.
The back of the neck is also badly done, looks sanded and not worn, Ive had two classic vibes strats, yes the necks are sticky but a few passes with fine steel wool gets it satin smooth, just got to be careful to not get any in your pickups.
For sure looking at a naturally aged/worn guitar it looks nothing like these quick relic jobs. unless a person was wearing a suit made of sandpaper while playing.
shoooeee. What a mess.
I wonder if the plan wasnt to get rid of the squire logo only to realise its too much of a mission. Anywho.. lots of work needed to sort that out. Unless someone digs it, in which case, happiness is!

To be fair he does list his items as 'dealer', so I never see them If you got skills and tools, I'm not sure there's a deal to be had there at 5k.

I've done one relic - I have a good excuse, it was beat to punk before I abused it. I did take off waaay too much, but I got the neck nearly perfect. My secret grime was coconut oil finish rubbed in w/steel wool and then buffed gave a slick satin finish. It's aged really well, better than hoped. I'll have to update with some pics soon.

It looks like the guitar barely survived a turpentine splash.
If I had the apatite, and if the price was way lower, I'd have some fun trying to refinish the entire thing.
V8 you should def update it! Get some traffic going here haha!
I used to have an account on here long ago that I don't have the email account of anymore, but wow seems to be really quiet here now.
RCVN Wonder what the dealer bought it for.

Hah, that'll take divine intervention - most peeps have bounced over to w/a or discord - there's GT groups running all three a.t.m
But yeah, thanks for the poke. I've been meaning to get some more pics of the bass up - it's looking well played in a.t.m. Want to get a another sunrise sesh in to get the same light
