Welcome all back to 2022! Annnnnnnd we're back with a backing track challenge.

Let's keep it simple, get any Royalty-free backing track and do whatever you want to it. Only condition is to share the original backing track, if possible, before you enter your track.

πŸ“… Entries Close: Monday, 14th February 2022, 23:59PM

πŸ“œRules: Entries can be any length, but must feature a royalty free backing track.

No genre restrictions or recording equipment restrictions. Use the interface, use the cellphone - it's all good.

P.s. Collaborations are welcomed!

⁉How To Enter: Record your entry, sign up or log in to SoundCloud, post it there. Then grab the SoundCloud link and reply here with the link pasted in your reply. **If possible, make your track public - that way I can make a playlist up. Since we may run into copyright issues with covers, if Soundcloud doesn't work, please use the attachements feature to upload your mp3 to the forum.

πŸ…Prizes: None this month, just the ever increasing infamy of winning a GuitarTalk Challenge! But wait....there's more - you even get the doubly dubious distinction of selecting the next challenge topic. If you ask for more, welllll...you will recieve, your winning entry will also feature in the annual GuitarTalk playlist - wow-wee! :crying:

Anyone can enter this competition. You just need a guitar and a phone. But any other recording equipment is fine too. Collaborations with fellow members or anyone you can recruit is encouraged!

Good luck and beeg enjoy to all the entrants!

So I did so me digging for 'royalty free' and well, yes kinda. And mostly no.

But I reckon wikiloops is a the best I've found so far. https://www.wikiloops.com/knowledge/use_of_tracks_outside_wikiloops.php

The ones that don't expressly mention it or non commercial use is kinda vague

I did spy a few royalty free playlists on Spotify and channels on YT. And did go through a few where a once off payment ($15-150) get you lifetime royalty free access to their library and lots of subscription based ones.

    You guys find any?

Talk about going back! (Hopefully this will qualify @V8?)

In 2017 There was a competition I finished but never entered (too intimidated) . Fortunately I found my old original entry and feel it still deserves to be heard. Here is the great original backing track.

The rules were only steel licks with a Telecaster Style guitar were allowed and Important: You must not use a bender on your Telecaster. Only finger work.

    studmissile Hopefully this will qualify

Sure! I don't see why not, though I'm not going to dig into the t&c's - sure they don't mind 😁

Agreed, that is a great track!

Neighbours turned off their electric fence long enough for me to record some guitar! Found a backing track with drums, bass and some stabby Stratty guitar, and used my Les Paul to lay down the rest.

Oh damn. This has been back of mind. I fear i wont make this challenge im afraid. Been busy with a different project which is eating up my spare time. Hope to be back in the saddle with the next one though

Bluetone Thanks, yeah it does sound good. If I remember correctly I used a rosewood tokai breezy that always seems to deliver a sweet tone with little effort. Unfortunately it's a little on the heavy side.

studmissile Has that thick, syrupy Tele tone I associate with Julian Lage or Jim Campilongo.

Yeah, work is just much at the moment. I'm going to need to sit this one out too.

Oh, that was close, I'm quite busy atm. However I managed to record something with my bagpipes last week, but somehow forgot to finish and enter the song πŸ˜… I'm glad I didn't miss the deadline πŸ˜ƒ

Of course it has to be bagpipes again! πŸ˜€ And a second rhythm guitar, I'm not skilled enough with the guitar yet for solos 🀣

The backing track is by Nick Neblo (I clipped it because it's very long):

        Thanks for entering everyone!
