MULTIFANFIX Decent track...but where's the acoustic guitar(s)? Is this your entry for this competition - if so, I'll just say upfront, you are way off the criteria.

We have a clips for review section : https://community.guitartalk.co.za/t/clips-for-review, where you can post whatever you like for us to listen to and give feedback on.

The challenge/competition threads are specifically for tracks you plan on entering for that challenge.

NorioDS (Go ahead and post those in the intro thread you started. To keep this thread from derailing.)

As @NorioDS mentioned @MULTIFANFIX, please keep your posts in the threads relevant - for now I've moved your last post to your intro thread here : https://community.guitartalk.co.za/d/26897-a-loud-hello-note-to-all

If I could remove the track I would.
This track isn’t my entry, SORRY guys.
My entry will come soon, you wait and see.

So I've been trying to replicate a song by Josh Groban for this challenge ('si volvieras a mi'). There are some lovely classical guitar sections in the song and a whole lotta other stuff happening. I've gotten the intro bit right and trying to add my own flavour, but I have to admit, playing on a nylon is not easy! I mean, getting it to properly sing. Sheesh.

This article has helped:https://community.guitartalk.co.za/d/26853-how-to-learn-songs-by-ear-a-complete-step-by-step-guide/3 . I'm doing the entire thing by ear ?

I realize how much we 'get away with' when we strum, but with finger-style you have to be on par with every note! Quite the challenge, especially when trying to create the melody.

Suppose that's what these challenges are all about eh? Growth...

    Good luck all.

I agree with you Wern101, we get away with a lot when playing songs by ear.
I’ve been playing songs by ear for years, mostly I get it right and some songs have other sounds that damp the notes we need to hear to play it right.
Then there are songs we get perfectly on note and later find that we play it differently from the original composed piece.

wern101 but I have to admit, playing on a nylon is not easy! I mean, getting it to properly sing. Sheesh.

Heheh...not it isn't! For me, a nylon is the most challenging out of electric/bass/acoustic triumvirate I can play. Really reminds you how much tone exists in your (both) your hands.

Also...a nylon highlights much time it takes to maintain those skills - take a while off and you have to polish em up again (and again, and again) - but that's common across instruments.

My first guitar was a classic with nylon strings and it was my only guitar for 5 years.
Tuning it by ear wasn’t a problem for me, the only problem for me was that it didn’t
stay tuned in for long and when you can’t find the note tuning it, they must be replaced.

Yes... I still jump on the forum from time to time. This week is NUTS. But after that I have a little breathing room (I'll be doing some designing of upcoming systems).

I've got some ideas in my head and I really want to spend some time recording my acoustic guitar through my new setup... I have not yet done any recordings of my acoustic guitar or through my new usb interface/desk. So I'm looking forward to all of that combined with creating an acoustic arrangement.

I've been struggling with this one ---- gut nuthin! I've been trying for something similar to Tenacious D's Wonderboy intro, but so far zilch. How are you guys doing?

klaasvakie Got three options...continue with the 4 note thing - I figured whatever I entered could be extended for next challenge or I've got a drop d groove that I've been working on and finally a version of "somewhere over the rainbow" that's a tad simple compared to the jazzcats interpretations - but instantly recognizable.

The only issue is that option 1 & 2 need a acoustic that's playable > 8th fret and mine itsn't. I have another...but it's a nylon strung electric that needs a 13 pin midi style preamp that I don't have (I could borrow one for a weekend though).

"Somewhere" will be the easiest...we'll see.

I hear someone around here is desperate to get rid of a larivee ?

Hehe..,dunno what's more likely - I actually find a steel string acoustic I like OR @domhatch enters. Knowing my dislike for steel strung acoustics, I'd say the latter ?

A brick wall has been hit...by me... in case that wasn't obvious.
Creative juices at an all time low. Trying to 'learn' a nylon isn't helping.

I may just redo an old song....

Glad I'm not the only one. Maybe I'll try to add a couple of beers to the mix on the weekend.

I've got a rough outline for a 4 chord song going (figured I'd start simple). Hoping to have some time to flesh it out over the weekend.

Hey guys, are we aloud to include other instruments ?
I’m new to this kind of music communication and I think its a good way to get some inspiration and have fun doing it.

              MULTIFANFIX

?Rules: Create a entry, using at least one track of acoustic guitar. Any & all instruments welcome, but the focus is acoustic guitar and I'll be suggesting that people vote accordingly (E.g. Who really showcased an acoustic guitar in their track). Use your phone, or get multitracking. No time limits or track limits. We may even tolerate creative covers...? Go crazzzyyy!

https://community.guitartalk.co.za/d/26884-the-acoustic-challenge-anything-goes - is the first post of this thread.

Thanks V8, now I can carry on with my project.
Oh I forgot to add, are we allowed to have fx on the acoustic or should it be clean acoustic ?

                • V8 replied to this.

MULTIFANFIX No worries. FX away to your hearts delight ?

As long as there is a track of acoustic, anything goes (vocals included).

Kinda productive weekend - especially considering how little playing I did!

Think I found a guitar to play my tune on - a surprisingly good yamaha G-225 at gear junkie. hopefully it doesn't sell before next weekend...(so I can borrow it for the weekend).

Composition is coming on, though I can already see getting one clean take is gonna be a real patience tester - likely i'll live with a good few boo-boo's.

                    How's y'all's coming along?

I think my composition and lyric writing is just about done (turns out rhyming is hard... who knew? ?) and I've got bits of it recorded... now to get a clean run of the rhythm part and vocals.
