V8 And to add a little spice, @wern101 has been calling out @domhatch and @Stoffeltoo to show off their rather tasty acoustic guitars...Of course this means @wern101 might be entering himself...?

? Yes indeed. We as a forum have been waiting far too long for @Stoffeltoo to do his NGD thread and @domhatch always promises to enter a compo.... What do you say gents?

OH and yes, I intend on entering. ?

This looks cool. I'll try to make some time to enter this one. One question, how do we feel about vocals in these challenges?

Yeti Not a problem as far as I can tell. Anything goes!

Anything Goes! ...............But make sure there is an acoustic with those vocals.

Good luck everybody!

Cool, I'll see if I can scrape a little free time together. ?

@Yeti, let me echo @wern101 & @studmissile - Anything Goes!

Keen to see what y'all come up with and if we've tempted a few old hands back for visit.

Even if it's just to use the 'deadline' to polish up a long lost idea, re-visit a electric piece as a unplugged version or even work on a standard/cover with your own spin.

V8 cool. :-)
Nice excuse to try my hand at a little composition.

5 days later

I think I’ve posted the wrong link and uploaded the wrong track on soundcloud.
You can listen to it anyway if you like. Its still something I composed and recorded.

domhatch I are in. With a little luck and a looooooooot of practice time...

Hooray! Now I suppose I have to make sure I actually submit an entry as well... or look like a big bananahead. ?

So how about it @Stoffeltoo ? You in?

? Entries Close: Sunday, 11th November, Midnight

Mmmmmm... Flip... so much work... and with the band... time for OTHER musical stuff is very toit.

Yay! Glad to know my track is likeable here, is a track like that valid for this competition ?

MULTIFANFIX Guitars, bud. We wanna see your guitars. Also amps, pedals maybe even cables. MAYBE even patch cables. We're dorks like that ?

(Go ahead and post those in the intro thread you started. To keep this thread from derailing.)

MULTIFANFIX Decent track...but where's the acoustic guitar(s)? Is this your entry for this competition - if so, I'll just say upfront, you are way off the criteria.

We have a clips for review section : https://community.guitartalk.co.za/t/clips-for-review, where you can post whatever you like for us to listen to and give feedback on.

The challenge/competition threads are specifically for tracks you plan on entering for that challenge.

NorioDS (Go ahead and post those in the intro thread you started. To keep this thread from derailing.)

As @NorioDS mentioned @MULTIFANFIX, please keep your posts in the threads relevant - for now I've moved your last post to your intro thread here : https://community.guitartalk.co.za/d/26897-a-loud-hello-note-to-all

If I could remove the track I would.
This track isn’t my entry, SORRY guys.
My entry will come soon, you wait and see.

So I've been trying to replicate a song by Josh Groban for this challenge ('si volvieras a mi'). There are some lovely classical guitar sections in the song and a whole lotta other stuff happening. I've gotten the intro bit right and trying to add my own flavour, but I have to admit, playing on a nylon is not easy! I mean, getting it to properly sing. Sheesh.

This article has helped:https://community.guitartalk.co.za/d/26853-how-to-learn-songs-by-ear-a-complete-step-by-step-guide/3 . I'm doing the entire thing by ear ?

I realize how much we 'get away with' when we strum, but with finger-style you have to be on par with every note! Quite the challenge, especially when trying to create the melody.

Suppose that's what these challenges are all about eh? Growth...

          Good luck all.

I agree with you Wern101, we get away with a lot when playing songs by ear.
I’ve been playing songs by ear for years, mostly I get it right and some songs have other sounds that damp the notes we need to hear to play it right.
Then there are songs we get perfectly on note and later find that we play it differently from the original composed piece.
