sorry.. but i have THE TOP worse guitar paint job of all time.....................
sadly i dont have a pic.. just the story...
a mates dad owned a genuine 1963 Fender strat - worth about R350,000 today!!!
his dad didnt liek the road worn look it was developing.. so he sanded it down and painted it green using some 2K automotive paints... end result, the guitar lost R300,000 in value!!!
enough to make me cry..
My personal hate is a cherry sunburst. Reminds me of supermarket guitar finishes - I just can't remove the association from my mind!
This cort is horrible
The aged cherryburst ain't much better
But I DO like a burst finish...
Stock 50's fender style
lapdawg's 59' sunburst replica is pretty sweet too (https://community.guitartalk.co.za/d/22460-attempt-to-get-close-to-a-59-burst-replica), He also does a browner 'tobacco burst' which I quite like.
And my mate Francois did a grey burst which I thought looked great on this tele
V8
This is where I'm so glad we all have different tastes..
I think the cherry burst is lovely.. maybe its just because I like the colour red on guitars, and I think the classic sunburst looks dirty and disgusting and is over done, especially the fender in your pic.. I keep wanting to give it a clean. i Like bold bright colours and love to see wood grain.
and I like statement guitars too.. something that says look at me.. so half of those worst guitar paint jobs I like
Tuckstir his is where I'm so glad we all have different tastes..
Heh...I don't think I have 'taste', just preference ?. My mates have a coiuple cherry sunburst's (Tokai LP, Cort G290) and they love em - me not so much.
But I'm odd - let us not forget, I did this to my poor bass
and this to the last red strat
I'll usually go for a natural worn finish (my strat) or a heavy relic (that poor abused bass) over a clean factory finish (graphics or not). Though I wouldn't turn my nose up at a 60's fiesta red strat or a lime green flouro 80's shredder.,..
I like some of those finishes :-O
lol
Ja it's like @Tuckstir said, it's great we all have different tastes.
I'd also rock a cherry burst no problem. And while I initially hated my purple RG470 with luminous pink and yellow (or was it green and yellow?) knobs, I'd LOVE to have it back now. A "look at me" guitar is fun to have. As long as it also ticks your other boxes for playability and tone, etc. (And even if it doesn't, I suppose ?)
