I've never really got into King Crimson, even though everyone tells me I should ?. I liked this song. The guitar work is super hard, but I think I have to give a shoutout to the base player as well, some ridiculous chromatic runs in there.
I think what makes me lose interest is just the very long dissonant runs with not much repeating melody to anchor the sucker. Maybe my musical taste is just not refined enough. Anyway here goes:

Not very much variation in this solo, but I liked the fact that it wasn't overly shreddy. Enjoyed the runs at 45s and 2:35s

I wonder if there's a list of these solos in order from easiest to hardest? That would be useful for slowly attacking all these solos.
I'm sure this process is a helluva education in writing solos. There's something about learning a solo (or any part of a song) that opens your mind. Particularly if you choose artists or styles that you've never tried playing before.
Metal, for example: I've never bothered with trying to learn anything there but I listen to a lot of it. Learning some rhythm of that Megadeth tune really was interesting. Totally different to anything I might choose to try and play.
Anyway, still a great thread ? Love peeking in here from time to time, especially for the songs/solos I recognise and love. Great to read his input and also add our own ?

No 78 is up with some Grateful Dead. He is right, not much of a solo, but there are some nice pentatoninc licks in there:
No 77 with Alice In Chains. I didn't know this song before, but I quite like it. The solo is good, but not sure if it is Top 100 material in my book.

V8 Yeah, the bends were top notch. Especially the "pre-bends", for me those are the toughest since you can't use your ear to guide you, they have to be spot-on the moment you pick the string. Normal pick-then-bends are much easier (for me at least).

I can get to a one step bend fairly accurately (not 2 or more though)...but, I struggle with the timing of bending without playing the note, it always seems VERY weird to me!

klaasvakie Enjoyed that, quite bluesy, with a dash of prog? Those bends had me grimacing in sympathy for his fingers, he did nail them - but it must of hurt eventually.
I dig the way he writes the background for the player/song - adds to it to have a bit of a backstory.
