Not sure if there exists a similar post, if so, please excuse my ignorance ?

Here's my challenge, I don't know where I should point my browser to find some good, honest, unbiased gear reviews?

It seems that anytime I search for gear reviews of amps/guitars/pedals I always find loads of unrealistically positive reviews, I mean everything can't get 5/5 ratings? (or do I just have really good taste?) ?

I've found some good reviews on https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews but it's a bit limited wrt guitar gear.

So where to go?

    Yowsers,,,took me a while to find this thread from last year - https://community.guitartalk.co.za/d/26185-youtube-gear-reviews-why-are-they-always-glowing - There's a links to a handful of channels, hardly encompassing but it's a start ?

    @ChrisDanger reccomended Philip McKinght : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEzJtFWNg7d7TZW7K9JyXmw.

    I've been watching a lot of Anderton's stuff - I honestly find the video's amusing ?. They did a blindfold fuzz review that was (imho) great.

    Finally, I'd be remiss not to mention that pedal show : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnUXq8mGmoHt0e6ItuTs10w - though they irritate me slightly.

    I think there's a lot of sponsored reviews on youtube (usually review this and keep it kinda payment) and those who arn't doing that often need more gear experience or just need the new to wear off.

    Pete Thorn's reviews are pretty good. He starts out with a song he makes up using the gear in different ways for each voiced instrument, then he breaks it down per instrument, so you get to hear how it sounds.

    Check out his intro video below for some context, including his promise only to review stuff he likes.

      Thanks for the suggestions! I'll check it out.

      I've watched a few Andertons vids, entertaining and thorough, but usually too long for me.

      One of my concerns with YouTube is that most of the time I cannot use a proper sound system to listen to the recordings, which means I cannot realistically judge for myself whether I like the tone or not (that's also assuming the recording is of good quality). In a case such as this I'd prefer a well written review, but it seems these are hard to find. :/

        Voodoo One reason I put up with the long winded Anderton's stuff (aside from amusing me) is that they do have a consistent approach to either DI'ing the basses or mic'ing up the amps. Headphones + HD quality (better audio) are essential.

        Sound on Sound is pretty good for written reviews and Premier Guitar ain't bad. Wish SoS did more guitar/bass gear!
