V8 Was thinking on 2nd look that the red lines on the diagonal weren't quite sitting centered in the white - is that why you are re-doing, or was it the bleed between the colours that prompted this?

The Union Jacks Diagonal Lines are Actually Not Centered in the white.. Something I learnt doing this Build Initially

As to the reasons.. the guitar looked great from far.. but was far from great , the outer texture wasn't done that nicely.. The bleeding prompted me building up other layers too greatly, which meant the sealant was applied too thickly, to try get it smooth and glossy which in-turn stained the white way too yellow. the stain wasn't applied correctly ( something I learnt Behindhand ) so the grain didn't show to my satisfaction..

Then I tried a different sealant on the neck.. wanted a more Lighter finish than I would of got with normal sealant.. and it still feels tackish if you try play it. it is set, and if you just feel it, its fine,, but prolonged use and it just doesn't feel right..

NorioDS I gotta say, seeing it like this... makes me wanna see it varnished and put-together exactly like this. For a sort of fake "relic" guitar look.

I know exactly what you mean.. I was like OK I'm done.. but I'm going to redo it from scratch.,.. and well, I kinda liked doing silver-leaf ,so um maybe go that route for the white stripes.... also I found a new product I want to try out.. if I don't Go for the stain... think I can Manage to do it correctly this time if I use the Silver-leaf to Hide all the Blaapsies ..

        So after having a busy 2 weeks, where the couldnt get round to fiddling with my guitar.. finally managed to start staining..
        keeping the original design,

        Much happier with the outcome.. the stain was a little more diluted than the first attempt, and correctly applied this time and thus the grain is showing up much clearer.. I did remove the masking tap, and as expected it did bleed, however I that's not a issue as the white I was going to use white paint... or silver leaf


        the back I've changed colour.. Gone from a blue stain to a mixed stain..

            I Can start Playing with the Neck

            First Up.. Need to make a neck straight edge

            first i need to take one perfectly good straight edge ruler and grind the crap out of it

              Hi Werner..
              basically to make sure my neck is correctly set with the truss rod.. should be checked with ANY guitar .
              making sure you have straight and true neck.. I have found that with the kits, they are generally correctly set, but doesn't hurt to double check. you can Eyeball it if you look down the length of the neck.. but not the most accurate method.

              I made a straight edge notched neck ruler for my Bass, and i Have a double sided one for the guitars(24.75" -25.5"scale length),

                    so finally today got round to making some tools at work... only been in the to-do list for the last 2 weeks.

                    fret rocker and 8-sided radius gauge

                    So I've been busy this Long weekend..
                    Finished sanding down my neck, resealed, and then went to crazy town with some paint.. tried and Mostly but not quite failed in doing the Bubble Paint Technique. but i am very happy with the outcome none the less. (sometimes failing can be good)

                    the pic just doesn't do it justice..

                    I have also done my decals

                    and some videos for some better views..

                    Sometimes you just have to redo things,
                    take the initial rushed work, break it down to the start and slowly but surely rework it into a master piece.

                    wern101 the body looked good before. Nice and bright!

                    YEAH.. looked good from far, but was NEVER really happy.. the finish was not up to my standards, I rushed things and stuffed up and was like Meh.. but it just kept irritating me.
                    also the Stain came out more like paint than stain..was too dark. too thick , and didnt show the wood..
                    now however I get to see the wood grain.. plus the silver adds interesting effects, changing in the light, and you can still see the grain through it..

                        So while I'm In limbo with another project,
                        My Finances Diy Jem, Which she was never happy with the finish, and has been left to just be hidden in its box,

                        so she finally consented to me sanding it back down so she can redo the finish

                          7 months later

                          awhile back I ordered a Custom Scratch plate from a laser-cutter out of 2 mm Aluminium and finally took the time to install it.




                          I Now have a Strat on my Strat

                          Very nice scratch plate. All it needs now is your name? I hope the even brushed finish stays, with my right hand style it would be scratched by now. I would venture a guess that re-sanding might be a frequent activity? Titanium a better bet?
