  • 101 Things to do before you die?

This is one of them and I can't believe I waited so long to start playing.

I am a little bit older than most of you (a lot really) and I guess I have raised the average age (and probably lowered the average standard of playing) but I enjoy the site and learn something every time I log on.

I bought a second hand Yamaha semi acoustic about two years ago. The guitar has stings that would work well on a cheese cutter or some instrument of torture. Not a good idea for a Newt with soft fingertips. I made no progress and gave up.

Then a year ago I bough a second hand Squire Strat (black of course) Love at first sight . It came with a Marshal practice amp and a Zoom 505 effects pedal but most of my playing has been unplugged or headphones via the 505. I stopped playing for a while but got hooked again in November and I try to play most day. Got a Korg PX5D last week and that has added a whole new dimension. I have learned a huge amount. Enjoyed most of it but, when I listen to the weekly challenge, even the so called beginners, I realise how much I still have to learn. My aim is to enter at least one weekly challenge before the end of the year.
    Welcome Griffin

Good to have you on board. This is a very inspirational site.

Don't worry about that!! The resident drummer (which is me) will still hold the record for lowering the standard of playing..

Welcome though!! This is a good one to tick of that list of 101 things! :goodtimes:
        Welcome, enjoy the forum!
          Welcome to the forum ?

Welcome aboard man, glad you finally took the plunge. Never too late!

I hope to start entering again soon, but ya don't worry, not much competition here!
                Welcome Griffin...

Youre never too old to learn something new!!
                  Welcome !!
I may well be older than you and am probably more of a beginner than you.
I've found this to be a warm, welcoming and educational place to be.

This is going to get difficult! The forum may not be big enough for both of us....

                    Welcome.

The main thing is to get pleasure from your playing. If that doesn't happen then there's no point to it.
Hi Griffin. Welcome to the forum!

There's more than a few of the more mature around here - ranging from the "midlife crisis" set, through to the "I'm retired and bored" set. (Alan ducks and runs) ? We all have the guitar in common though, so it's all good.

Time to start up a new "Born in the 50s (or before)" board.

And/or have a new membership status of "venerable" or "Uncle".

You think?! Scout around in this thread and you may change your mind.

Welcome. This is a good place to be. Lots of contagious things which you will become aware of. No vaccine, no cure.
Reading all this i'm just glad it's not going down on the "My little pony" forums.

Thats just the challenge, and beauty, of the guitar. You will never learn everything!
BTW, its a very good idea to set yourself goals and aims, like entering the challenge. Others could be to jam with someone within a certain period of time etc.
Mine for this year is to play on stage, in other words to hook a guest spot at a gig with a band - after all these years!
So - welcome and go for it!!

watch out for the stage it's bloody addictive , it becomes a drug you have to have more of
