KC
Hello. My name is KC and I know absolutely nothing about guitars. However, I love guitar music.
When I turned 40 recently I decided that life is too short to waste, and that we must live our dreams. So, after a visit to Andy Mc Gibbons and the local Harley-Davidson dealership I am now the proud owner of a lovely steel string Tanglewood guitar and said mode of transport to get me to the guitar lessons.
I signed up with a local fellow and have attended a few lessons (I can already play one song really badly) However, my teacher has experienced some domestic problems, and can no longer see me in the evenings. As a result I see him whenever I have a gap during the day, but that does not happen often.
So, I may have to look for another teacher. In the meantime I continue to practice every evening and really enjoy it.
That’s me ;D
Cheers

Welcome KC ?
It's good to have you here!
I remember when I started out. I was strumming 4 times per chord to Bob Dylan's Blowing in the Wind. Hehe. Also, back in those days, a D-major was a huge pain in the butt ?
What song have you just learned? And what guitar music do you enjoy? Do you like our videos so far?
I'm very much into electric guitar but I've played and enjoy classical guitar.
Have you ever heard of Wes Montgomery? Awesome jazz guitarists (REALLY awesome) but he takes some getting used to if you've never listened to much jazz before.
Anyway, thanks again for registering. I'm enjoy seeing some new faces here!

What guitar music do I enjoy? Well, there is so much!
I like rock, blues, metal, folk, classical and jazz just to mention some. I would like to migrate to electric guitar later but decided to start with the acoustic.
If I had to be more specific I’d say blues and rock.
Cheers

Cool stuff ?
I never pictured you as a metal-guy. What metal are you into?
I love old 80s metal. Most of the new stuff doesn't really appeal to me.
Do you know Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc?
KC
Hey, I love metal! Jup, I know Judas Priest, Iron Maiden etc. Love ACDC, Black Sabbath and Nightwish. You know Nightwish?
I’m currently hunting down some music from a band called Metal Church. I was only recently introduced to them.
Not really metal, but I’m also a huge Meatloaf fan. Saw him live a few years ago. Awesome.
Then a band that always gets me onto my feet, ZZ Top. Saw them live as well, almost blew us out of the room they were so loud! Unbelievable!
If you enjoy metal you must listen to Tamara Jeunette on Thursdays at 10pm on Radio Today 1485 medium wave or DSTV channel 169. She hosts a metal show. It is great!
Also listen to the Rock Professor Chris Prior just before her from 8pm to 10. So, great music from 8 to midnight!
I collect live concerts on DVD. Open a bottle of red wine and that’s me finished for the next few hours. I get totally involved in the music ;D
Cheers

Yup, my fiance's brother introduced me to Nightwish. I enjoy hearing metal versions of classical concepts or songs. It's very interesting and they fit together surprisingly well.
Try find Metal Church here: www.torrentpond.com (Use utorrent to download)
I don't think I've heard much ZZ Top. Although it could be a case that I know their music but never linked the songs to the name. That happens a lot.
That's pretty awesome, I thought Barney Simon was the last decent DJ left ?
We get Tuks FM here which can be nice but also plays a bunch of junk too. Oh well.
I want to collect Live Concerts on DVD. I have 2 of the G3's, 1 of Satch in San Francisco, 1 of Metallica, and 2 compilations of live performances from Toto and Santana, respectively.
There's nothing better than pumping up the volume, sitting back and enjoying!
KC
Look out for a double disk DVD called Crossroads by Eric Clapton. It is a live 3-day guitar festival he organised in Dallas featuring many of the greats like Santana, BB King, Steve Vai, ZZ Top etc. This is a must for your DVD collection.
Also look out for the Steve Vai live in London DVD. Amazing.

Thanks, I'll check them both out ?
I used to buy one CD/DVD a month and I look forward to going back to that. It's a much more fulfilling way of living ;D

Yes, it is like a drug. Try as I may I cannot shake the habit of wandering into music stores when my wife isn’t looking and emerging with a handful of “bargains” that I just “had to have”. They look cheap one by one, but put them together and you get a huge fright once the teller rings it all up ?
Buying one a month is much more sensible. Just don’t skip a month!

I miss going into music stores and listening to a bunch of CDs trying to decide which one I'd get THIS month.
The sad thing is that I think my tastes in music have delved so far into the uncommon that I can't easily find what I'm looking for in SA.
I love www.eMusic.com, for example, because it has some of those things you just can't find anywhere else. (Along with a bunch of crap covers, mind you ?)
One really big pity is that Tanya couldn't care less for live-concert DVDs so I don't really get a chance to watch them unless she's not home.

THought u guys would like to know, there is a store in KIllarney Mall (it's the only Movie/DVD shop in the centre) that has EVERYTHING u can possibly imagine when it comes to live music shows. THey even have the latest Vai tour there, so get like R200 000 together, and off u go ?
NorioDS
On that note, there's also a place in the Centurion Mall that has a lot of stuff that's usually harder to find (all the G3s, etc).
It's called Music Moods and they stock a HUGE range of DVDs.
AlanRatcliffe
Music Moods is also in the Somerset West Mall in Cape Town. Also a great range of music DVDs there. I've even found a few Zappa DVDs.

I am also glad to see I am not the only one who battles with one particular chord... for me G-major is a huge problem as whenever I change from some other chord I end up "crashing" it with the wrong fingers on the wrong frets.
