Hi
I'm just about to buy myself a VG Strat. I totally dig the specs and also got it at a very good price.
Im also getting the Fender Deluxe Amp.
Can anyone give me some feedback on any of these?
Cheers,
DK

After a half hour with it, I decided the VG Strat was interesting, but not quite there yet. They'll have to do some major work on getting the battery consumption down to make it a viable option, IMO.
+1 on the Deluxe. Wonderful amp.

Hi Dirk. I won't mind having the VG Strat, but there are just so many options that I will pay for that I know I'm not going to use in a studio and live environment. If the price is good then I will take it anyway though. Remember that it is still a proper strat if you end up not using any of the modelling sounds.
As for the amp, if you are referring to the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe I found them to be voiced towards the low mid and bassy side. That does not mean that they do not have good tops, but I really struggled to tame the bass on high volumes using a Deluxe HSS Strat. They are also too loud for small pubs and restaurants. If you play venues that are smaller/less rowdy there are smaller lower wattage amps that might give you a better sound at lower volumes. Once again, if the price is right go for it.

Thanx Guys..
Yeah I'm looking at the 65 Deluxe reverb. I plugged the VG into it and got some nice tones. The battery idea does kind of bother me :-\
Will I still be able to use the normal single coils even when the battery dies on me during a gig?
Mojo, I was actually concidering PRS, but it has just always been a dream to have my very own strat! Plus, I got it for R18 000!! which is like R10K off the list price. I will, however, definately look at the PRS in the near future.
I also test drove the Boss GT8, and loved it, but I'm still drawn towards getting individual pedals. What do you guys think? Im very much into blues, and aren't sure of which pedals to go for?
Cheers..

The normal pickups work regardless of the battery. so in emargancy you can still play.
I think that if you have time to really tweak you digital pedal then it can sound great. I never had the courage so I just bought analog

The Deluxe is a great amp - pair that with a Strat and maybe an Ibanez Tubescreamer and you have a great and timeless blues rig. Not the only way to do it, but a good way, and if you already like the Deluxe, it's a safe bet.

If you're gonna go GT then go GT-10 it knocks the shit out of the 8 and feels far more realistic and on top of that actually manages to get the subtleties out of each string even when using gain sounds.
Like all BOSS toys the GT has awful preset patches though so unless you're willing to spend the time getting the tone you want you're not going to get results, sometimes all the options and buttons get confusing and finding tone can become frustrating but once you have it down it's beautiful. I can now go from a super high gain Rectifier lead sound to a boutique crunchy lead sound to a saw tooth wave sound lead with distortion on the synth and a moderate reverb all with a few footsteps and best of all it gets all the dynamics right !
I think with most of these high end effect boards you just gotta sit with them though, and they all have their own plus points and down points so lets not start a petty argument about GT vs POD vs GNX okay!. I will say though in the list of features I find having a looper on board has been the most helpful cause I can now loop a progression so that I can practice modes over them, like when in guitar mags they say this line will work well over a I, VI, V progression I can now play it and see ?
If you're going GT I don't really think you should be bothering with a nice amp like that though, rather go pedals for that thing otherwise you're just defeating the purpose ?

Hey BluesAddict, how's the VG going? Did you use it on Wednesday at Jonathans? Keep us in the loop.
Dirk
Yo Aubs
Im enjoying it like you cant believe. Didnt take it with on Wednesday cause I wasnt planning on playing. I got a Boss BR recorder from Graeme, so I'll try and get some stuff recorded and post it.. But the sounds that im getting out of it is really unbelievable!
