Since building my own classical guitar 9 months ago I have found out just how difficult, tedious, and frustrating it is to source strings, maintenance tools, nuts and saddles, polish, musical scores and so on. The local music store staff in Gauteng are not particularly enthusiastic and the majority of them lack in depth knowledge of the classical guitar. I would like to know from members of this forum whether they see the need for a website where they can access products, knowledge, equipment, and most other things related to the classical guitar. Please comment to give me some indication of interest before I proceed any further with the project. Many thanks.

Not strictly classical, but I'd certainly be interested if it included finger style, steel string things.
A lot of it would overlap.
I'd be especially keen to be able to source tools and such locally.

I totally agree with you about staff in most stores but for one exception... Lovemore music in Brixton. I have had very good experiences there.

I really love Thomastik-Infeld Plectrum and Classic S strings. Most long haired bright sparks behind the counter never heard of putting steel strings on a classical guitar...

I think a website is a wonderful idea! would you actually import and hold stock... or would it just be a list of categorized links.

If you just code a database front end and let any supplier input his own data it may save you a lot of crunching just a thought. Good luck

unfortunately, it's still less hassle to import what you want than to trust shops around here to get you what you need.

i contacted a few guys for a certain pickguard, lo and behold... no dice.
so when my buddy goes back to the states, he'll bring one back for me.

and that's what you should look at doing as well.
