I'm gonna reply despite the fact that you have edited this thread ?

I have an 8 string, it's super awesome for composition cause you have so much range to toy with and though I don't get to use it live very often it does serve as a rad back up in case my 7 string ever breaks a string, and the longer scale length gives them their own kinda tone which makes them rad as another texture when recording.

finding string gauges that make sense for them is a total pain in the ass though, like seriously just such a giant pain. If you wanna own an 8 string and have a tension spread that makes sense be prepared to order in packs of single strings in huge gauges and be vigilant to make sure you don't run out. ?
Yes what Chad said, there's very little support from music shops and fellow guitarists, so you're basically on your own when it comes to figuring it all out.

I thought the novelty might wear off but I'm still playing it everyday, more than my other guitars. I feel that the electric guitar is MEANT to have 8 strings, but I suppose having big hands is er, handy too.

I noticed people get put off when they purchase a guitar with an inadequate scale length, the strings can get a bit floppy. Rather go for 27inch and up if you can.

Do you listen to a lot of music played on extended ranged guitars?
No I don't really listen to anything that involves 8 string guitars but I often find myself wishing for more room (like you said, it feels like a guitar should probably have 8 strings) and for interesting and longer chord progressions without having to tune my guitar down.

As far as lead guitar goes I don't think I'd make much use of it and I don't play a whole lot of metal. I like the idea of having more options though.

Some reviewers have said the pickups for this particular guitar are not great so now I'm thinking if I do get an 8 string it probably won't be this one.
