So I have a Guyatone 50w bass head,if u do not know this amp, neither did I until a friends dadsold me it,its basically a 70's fender replica, sounds like a mix between a guitar and bass amp of that time from the fender amps. Now firstly I have a jensen c12n 50w speaker, now will this work with this amp. I always understood it as equal or more than the amp wattage, but I know little about this. And secondly for the cab build, something small not big, vintage looking style, thinking closed back. Can u recomend me designs to check out or provide me with links to check out.
Help 1x12 cab build and amp advise
The amp will be used as a guitar amp,I found this build wich I think I will do.suggestions on closed back or not? Also where does one get tolex and grill cloth in SA? Cape Town? I have been to many places over the years never found it,anyone on here that sells? Let me know who I should talk to,I'm thinking doing the cab in white tolex always wanted a white amp
Here's the cab link

All I can say regarding the back on or off, make it detachable because you wont know which sound you prefer until you try it with your setup. I had a 200w Randall amp that sounded much clearer with the back off.
Yeah no it wil be detachable, just want some input from guys who have done small closed backs,I'm even thinking going a little smaller than the cab in the link. Been reading online and seems we still don't have tolex and cloth in sa. Remember searching at fabric stores 2 years ago,and all I could find is vinyl, and even tho it might work, just felt it was gonna have a cheap look to It. Going to look into amazon.com they have some, and I read recently guys are importing all sorts of stuff from them lately
If you do a forum search I recall there are a few guys who have done similar builds, might be worth swinging them a PM and asking where they ordered from.
Not sure if this is what you want but The Gear Junkie has a Vox replacement cloth. Maybe you can shoot them a mail and hear if they have anything else?

I also need tolex and some other cabinet supplies. You cannot find this stuff in South Africa, unless you buy it from someone who got some in. If you don't find any, maybe we can order some together and share the shipping (Tolex shipping is expensive because it is quite heavy and big).
If you need advice on building cabinets, send forum member Lapdawg a pm.
I'm in Cape Town too (and so is Lapdawg).

The thing is like in my op,I was saying 1x12 because I want to keep it small and I really don't want a 2x12. Now I have been thinking I have a plexi 50w head that my my "toppie" friend build and sold me,its just the plate and still needs the head build for it to fit into. But I can do that when I do the cab.
But I think I should wait on the plexi rather since it won't work with a 1x12 especially a 50w jensen, now I still don't know if the 50w guyatone will work with a 50w jensen, any opinions on that?if it wil work I'm doing the 1x12. Reason I'm doing the build is because I have the speaker and the head just sitting there.Maybe I should rather find another jensen and do 2x12 ...

Ez great idea for group buying, remember my friend did a group buy with musiekwereld for the kinman pickups because it was so expensive to just get one pair over here, maybe if we can get another 2 guys in,it will be much more worth it for us to import,I will ask my friends toppie if he would be interested, when I see him again. After all these years still don't understand how we still don't have this stuff. Ez I haven't looked into yet but I want plexi style knobs for my plexi,if u bringing in some hardware, not sure if we get it here like I said haven't looked into it.
Thanks will check it out now,not fuzzy at all just looking for any grill clothNeil Nitro wrote: Not sure if this is what you want but The Gear Junkie has a Vox replacement cloth. Maybe you can shoot them a mail and hear if they have anything else?

Firstly, You can safely play that 50 watt amp into that 50 watt speaker provided you don't turn the amp loud enough that it will start overdriving. Valve amps are rated for their clean output but will generate more than their rating when driven, in which case that 50 watt can probably push out 75-100 Watt. In that instance you will likely destroy the speaker. Use it even more conservatively if its an old speaker. That plexi will also kill the speaker. Keep in mind it will also damage your ears way before the speaker gives in.
I got the faceplate with the amp parts from England but it is possible to just have the perspex engraved here (You will have to make a DXF or something that is flipped), you just need to paint the letters black and paint the back gold after that. I'm still looking into this, I'm far away from needing front and back plates as it stands.
Plexi knobs are just Marshall style knobs. You can get them from various places online, the real Marshall branded ones are pricey but there are others that looks great that costs reasonable money.
If you have a list of things you need then PM me and we can look for a place where we can both get the stuff we want. The tolex alone will up the shipping costs by a lot. Tolex is sold in 1.3mx1m patches so its a big package and tolex is pretty heavy too. If you have a standard plexi you can just buy a set of plates at most of these online shops.

To give you an idea about this stuff I made a project on that site and the costs are as follows:
2× Tolex - Original Marshall, Red Elephant, 53.5" Wide S-G407
4× Jack - Mono Input, Metal Nut, Cliff UK, 4 Solder Lug for Marshall S-H901
2× Jack - Mono Input, Black Plastic Nut, Cliff UK, Replacement for Marshall S-H902
4× Piping - Original Marshall, Gold, Thin, Sold per foot S-GP002
1× Handle/Clamp/Caps, Large, Black with Gold, Vintage Marshall Style P-H287
6× Knob - Black, Gold Top, Set Screw, Marshall Style P-K393
1× KT66 - Genalex Gold Lion T-KT66-GEN-MP
1× 5AR4 / GZ34, JJ T-5AR4-JJ
Subtotal: $220.05
Shipping on that lot is $130 and mostly because of the 2 yards of Tolex. I think I only need one yard but you may need 2 or 3 for a 1x12 cabinet. They cost about $13 per yard unless you get the Marshall branded stuff.
So the total is around $350.

Thanks ez,my friend has a 3d printer so I wil ask him about it,otherwise I will just look in to perspex,I know a place in stikland that can mould and shape but not sure about engraving.
I'm busy buiding a new pc,which is costing quite a penny, and al my spare money. But if the price is right we can do it,otherwise only end of the year. I will have a look tomorrow at that site u provided and send the links what I want.
Yeah valve amps I know outputs way more than wat they are said to be,that's why I'm afraid of the 50w speaker. Its a brand new jensen c12n if I remember correctly now,got it about 3 years ago with a deal. Been packed away with the plexi for a long time, due to work and other band commitments never had time.

Yeah I can see how it would help us out both on the shipping, this is something one would definitly want to do with someone.I will be looking at 2yards white tolex, with grill cloth and piping.Would it be better if get one or 2 more guys involved,I can't see that our custom will hit is that hard, they are more A holes when it comes to bringing in expensive electronics and stuffez wrote: To give you an idea about this stuff I made a project on that site and the costs are as follows:

What impedance is the Jensen speaker? I assume the amp is 8 Ohms? JP at Leroux amps in Jhb might be able to help you with Tolex and valves
