Worship effects

Good day

I sold my gt 10 and i am playing lead guitar at church can anyone help me what is a good pedal board to start with and the effects

What i had in mind was

Boss dd7
Tuner
Bbe distortion can get one cheap
Mxr noise gate
Cheap. Boss volume pedal
Bbe compressor

Please tell me what you guys would use

It looks like you pretty much have all the basics there and some more. I have two drive pedals. One lower gain than the other for rhythm playing and the higher gain one for a lead tone. Having a delay pedal is definitely crucial too. Those three and a tuner pedal is all I use. That being said I do also have reverb on my amp which I toggle with its footswitch.

Drive, more drive, delay and volume seems to be pretty universal- that will cover just about everything except David Crowder/ Digital Age stuff. Maybe play with the order of your distortion pedals to see how they stack so you get clean->drive 1->drive 2->drive 1 and drive 2.

You don't need alot, I'm using the following.

Ernie Ball JR volume
Box of Rock overdrive
Modded blue driver
Spark boost
Hall of fame reverb
Timefactor delay
DIY Compressor pedal.

I also use the amp spring reverb and dirt channel.
A simpler delay is also enough (i just got a good deal)

I would definitely look for something a little more versatile that a DD7, I had one and sold it due to no presets. I found it difficult to tapping on time before the next song starts. I got myself a Flashback X4 and now I can store up to 3 presets. Makes a mountain of a difference.
What about reverb?

I do agree with the statement regarding a more versatile delay, a DD7 will definately work but it may get somewhat limiting and frustrating. I also had a DD7 and it was enough for quite a while but having used the TC Nova Delay and Eventide Timefactor it is really convenient to save presets and recall them on the fly. And a tap switch is really easy to build for about 200 bucks so don't let that put you off a nice delay pedal.

And some extra comment regarding the reverb, I had to fix my reverb and didn't use it a while and got along quite alright but now that its working again, opens up alot of room for swells and a bigger sound, get one if you've got the rest!

I know the dd7 is not that great but the flashback or nova delay or even the time live are all insane but they are heavy expensive pedals

I got reverb on my amp its a Peavey valve king micro and like it a lot

Re the DD7, I think it is a great option, but absolutely necessary to have the external tap tempo (I built one myself). If I'm starting a song I'll tap the tempo off of the drummer's count in (got to be quick tho ?)
I have the timefactor and honestly when playing worship I have one, max 2 presets that I stick to the majority of the time.

Also I don't think the noise gate should be necessary... and I would definitely add a reverb, something with more than just spring reverb - TC hall of fame is really good - for some more ambient/swell stuff.

+1 for the 2 overdrives, I like one more transparent drive (Timmy/OD11 or Danelectro Transparent Drive) and something like a tubescreamer as the second drive. Play around with stacking the drives into eachother.

I played lead last week at Sunday worship. On my pedal board I have

What did I use?
Telecaster - Boss TU-2 - 5E3 tweed deluxe with VVR!

I turned the volume pot on the Tele down to about half, the VVR to about 25% to play rhythm. Light strumming and picking was clean, but if I dug in I got nice overdrive. For lead I just turned up the volume pot on the Tele. It's a different approach and I may go back to using my pedals more. We'll see ?

I'd suggest your first point of reflection should be: what style of music is your worship team playing?

Lead guitar can be approached several ways. To me it's about adding the extras to the main dish of the song, not showcasing brilliant skills while others provide accompaniment. In a church worship setting, that has to be the case otherwise we run the risk of making it about ourselves, rather than the focus being on the music.

With that said I come back to the style question. If you have a pop or rock vibe then you've already covered a bunch of bases with your setup, but it's a little thin for more ambient or atmospheric sounds. You can use the volume pedal for swells and violining-type technique. Maybe consider adding a delay like the Carbon Copy,or even a wildcard like the Boss Harmonist, or a flanger (can be tweaked for a nice subtle chorus-like effect, plus can be used in louder rock songs) for times when OD isn't an option and reverb alone lacks that extra something.

Some groups (Delirious, Jesus Culture to name two) use an Ebow at times to good effect. If you're suffering from a surplus of spare cash, take a look at a Strymon Mobius. But if - like most of us - you're not in the market for a 5K pedal you won't use much, then a decent flanger and an organic-sounding delay/echo may well round off what you're after very nicely.

Timmy Drive (lower gain overdrive)
Fulltone OCD (higher gain overdrive)
Xotic SP Compressor / Wampler Ego Comp (depending on how bright you like your tone)

Disaster Area DMC-3XL Gen2 (midi controller to create joint Timeline and Big Sky patches)

Amp-wise: You can't go wrong with a Fender Twin Reverb. Mic it up on axis (center of speaker cone), around 10cm off the grill, it will give you a really nice sparkly-clean tone which will cut through the mix.

Are you honestly suggesting that the best amp for this particular application, in a genre where even gentle stage-volume is considered one of the original sins, that a Fender Twin is the answer? Really? And then you want it mic'd too O_o
