Stealing from your customers - Credit Card Fraud

I recently bought a quite expensive electric guitar from my favourite instrument shop. Also bought my acoustic from them 6 monhs ago and my wife's piano a year and a half ago.

While I and half of the shop staff was in awe of this beautiful instrument we just opened the box of, and I was not monitoring my credit card with such care as always, someone decided to copy all the details on the card and sell it or use it themselves. What they did not know is, they are the only transaction on my card in the past month.

They usually service and setup my guitars as well. Now how should I trust them with that? It is probably just one poephol that is destroying their reputation, but it is still hard to trust the shop again. ☹

sad story ...and its happening everywhere...card cloning is a booming cottage industry..

sorry to hear, report to your bank and find the bastard at the store....

and keep a close eye on yr card...

Nope. There were two or three behind the till and two others were next to me trying to find a case for the 7 string to fit in. It was just busy, because they ordered the guitar on my request and all of them also wanted to see what it looks like. So it was 5 or 6 people around. Oh well. Will just have to be more careful in the future and maybe look into the virtual card options available.

Never leave sight of your credit card, its in the rules that come with it. Like leaving your check book unattended. Hey we all make mistakes hope we all learn from this.

What actually happened, some fraudulent transactions put through on your card the same day you used it at the shop?

Definitely speak to the shop owner if that was the case, no ways in hell he'll be supporting staff that do that.

Not on the same day. Details used for some telesales elsewhere.

Phone the bank and charge back the transaction, takes about 2 months but they will do it without any hesitation

Report it to the police and to the shop owner

Already handled the bank part. Going to speak to the owner during the week. Reporting to the police - waste of time, taking into consideration previous crimes I reported.

Agreed on your sentiments re the Police however sometimes you need the Police Case number
