  • Guitar & Case smells of old cigarette smoke

The following worked in a car, don't know about a guitar and case.
Get one of those Sta-Soft sachets or refill bags and put it in the case, with the guitar.
I once read somewhere that cat litter is great for removing odours from guitar cases. Just scoop some into the case, leave for a couple of days and then vacuum the granules out. I've never tried it though.
The guitar might be a bit trickier, especially if it has a lot of bare wood (like an acoustic's inside for instance) which might have absorbed the odour over time. Not too sure if I will be willing to fill my 45year old guitar up with cat litter... :-\
My Vox was like that, pub smell esp when she warmed up ...

Smoke seems to leave a residue which doesn't go away overnight. probably wipe the guit and case with a white vinegar & water solution.... prolly leave a damp cloth with this solution inside the case for a few days also

Hmmm... I think I'd prefer my 45 year old guitar to smell a bit like cigarettes (even as a non-smoker) than Sta Soft. But that's just me ?
My Strat had a similar problem. I used to sprinkle aftershave in the case (not on the guitar) every couple of days and it soon sorted the problem out. Plus It got to smell like something I liked.
i've had this problem. but just with a guitar

solution: i put the the guitar in a bigger case with some chunks of charcoal (yes charcoal, the woody burned type) it sucks out any of the smells, left it overnight and all the bad smells were gone the next day
you are right Manny one can use the activated charcoal that pet shops sell for pond water purification +- R30 for 1kg
Your wife or girlfriend perfume maybe ?
Hang on- the Fender Custom Shop charges $500 extra for 'authentic club relic odour' - and you want to strip it away? ?
hey don't mess with the MOJO...................... ? i love the smell of vintage guitars and their cases .... and i DON'T smoke... but it is the smell of "mojo"

                    just leave it ..........

Where's the like button... *thumbs up* ?
                        7 days later
                        I had a similar problem.
Clean case with a upholstery cleaner.
                        Leave in sun to dry.
Take cheap perfume or aftershave spray it all into the case.
Leave in sun for a few days.
                        Does help
After the cleaning lady killed a Washburn for me I found an Ibanez Concord on gumtree.
It had been a braai buddy and the layer of fat on the fretboard was extremely ghastly.
It had lived on top of a cupboard since the owner had passed away years previously.
For a few years the moldy old braai smoke smell clung to it and eventually faded,
but somehow when the jamming got really hot she would emit that smell again.
Must have been ten years later that it left my care and the odour had eventually disappeared.
