The one function on my Cube 80 that I use more than any other is probably the looper. Just a pity it's too short and can record only one phrase at a time.

So I reckon a looper might be a nice toy to have but I don't really know much about the options. So:

1. Would you clever okes be so kind as to give me a 101 on loopers please? What are the features that separate the different units?
2. If you had something in the order of 1K to 1.5K to burn, which do you think would be a good buy? Even second hand is fine by me.

TIA
i have a boss RC3 ...more expensive as you need to buy an extra footswitch to get easier function

i am very happy with it ....... and the bonus is it has 3 hours of loop time NOT just a few minutes like some other models...also with boss you can store your (recordings) in 99 locations ,,,

i bought brand new ...and money well spent ....bought the RC3 unit the double extention pedal and a power adaptor and that s all you need....

excellent sound quality , and the 3 hrs of time is whats great .... also it's a stereo unit

but there are others on the market the ditto or boomerang.... the real serious ones are quite expensive but you need to decide what you want to do with it ....

just when buying be aware of the amount of time you can store...cos if you make a 3 min loop to use as a backtrack for a song ...yes it's only 3 min for the 1st track but soon as you overdub it's 6 min then 9 min and before you realise it you using a lot of time on just one track ....and if you want to store say 10 songs each with a few takes of 3 min each you get the picture ..... ?

great learning tool especially for soloing /improv
Hi keira.. I have asked this question before on the RC-30 , I see you have the 3, but my question remains the same..

Do you experience any delay in switching between loops in live performance?

i have no idea ...as i don't use it for live performance just for practise ...but i did read somewhere there was an issue but there is a fix or it has been fixed on the newer models ....... best let someone more tech savvy reply ....but in the limited ways i use mine everything works as it should
I have a Jamman...unfortunately haven't used it yet. What appealed to me though is that you store the loops on an SD card so you can upgrade the size....and that you can load loops of your PC onto the Jamman and vice versa...will tell you more once I get going....will have to say though I think you'll struggle to find under R1500...IMO
Thanks a lot guys, that's about the answers I was looking for. R2.3k doesn't seem that far out of reach so maybe I'll just rather save up a little longer and rather go for the Boss RC3.

Nitebob, do you mind me aksing what sort of price range one is looking at for that Jamman?
Maybe I should jsut expand my question a little. One thing that I'd like to do, which I can't do with the looper on my Cube 80 is to record two chord progressions and then be able to switch between the two on the fly. So for instance, I'd loop one chord progression and solo over it for a while and then press a button or hit a pedal and the looper starts playing the other chord progression. Think of it as a verse and a chorus of a song.

What is this feature called? If I wanted this, what should I look for when shopping?

Mine I bought used from Dr.Gonzo for R1500....RC2...RC3...all around R1500 here in CT. Dunno if you find em cheaper up in JHB...

Hehehe....I got my RC2 for R350 ? ? ? But yeah, it was a fluke! The rest of em go for about 1000 to 1500. An RC300 can go upwards of R3500

My understanding is that for this you'd need a 2 channel looper such as the RC-20 or RC-30. I think you may be able to do this with the RC-3 and a footswitch by using it to switch between 2 different patches. I know I can't do this with the RC-2 as it's only single channel and 11 savable patches...
