  • The new Jeff Beck Les Paul

AFAIK, while he recorded some major albums with his LP (Wired, Blow by Blow), Beck hasn't played a Gibson for more than 20 years... And his Strat tone is great.

Absolutely! Theres even a JB Signature Strat - seafoam green with special pickups. He also plays with his fingertips these days, which contributes to his dark tone. My favourite album is 1999's Who Else! Amazing tone and he even plays a scorching blues song. I always play it for hard rock fans who knock the blues...
And: Jennifer Batten backs him up!

      Check out this bit!
Beck apparently saw a converted LP in a store in the Seventies which he bought. It became his ''oxblood'' Les Paul, which has now been copied. But just take a look at what the previous owner did to it:

"The guitar that caught his attention was a '54 Gibson Les Paul that a customer had dropped in for some very specific modifications. One request was that its original Goldtop finish be stripped off in favour of a deep chocolate-brown finish, a colour that turned out to exhibit some oxblood tints in certain light. Other modifications included the installation of full-size humbucking pickups in place of the P-90s, altering the full and rounded early '50s neck shape to a slightly thinner profile and changing the original tuners for modern replacements. Legend has it that the customer didn't like the results, but Jeff Beck did. "

      Djeez!

I wonder how many players have a signature Strat and a signature Les Paul.

Beck seems to have never been into vintage guitars for the sake of vintage guitars, or for preserving them as collector's pieces.

One guitar he used on Blow By Blow was a Telecaster with PAFs fitted to it. This guitar was used for recording "Because We Ended As Lovers".

A favourite of mine. 8) I can only dream of a beaut like that. Would Jeff Beck not have played a Les Paul like this in "The Stumble"...? :-\
I'm seeing him live tomorrow night - I let you guys know what he plays.

            Just had to gloat.

              Heartless!
Apparently the Aged and signed 50 replicas are $25000 each. Yikes.
                  The regular ones are $5-7000
Still a lot of money. Strange thing, Gibson used to have a regular oxblood Les Paul, same specs etc. a while back for a LOT less than the Beck ones.
