To be honest, I need you all to know the details of this song before casting your vote. I had been working on this since December already. It was an on/off thing. For a very long while I wanted to do a Rage Against the Machine styled song, and then this competition came along, so the timing is perfect, but of course, it means I had the upper advantage. So please consider this as a factor. Also the track is definitely not 2 min. But I just want you all to hear it. I'm proud of it. The track features 2 excellent rappers - Brightly Clothed Boy (Josh Prinsloo) and Diff (Adrian van Wyk)

Breaking Benjamin - Voters can listen to the following track as a reference for the type of sound that I was going for: =http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztJirkY5AMw#ws

I think you left off the heading in my PM to you. Just in case people don't realise, I chose Breaking Benjamin to knock off ?

I'm looking forward to listening to all the entries this evening at home.

I thought the youtube vid would give people an indication haha. But I fixed it in anycase ?
wow. ok, lekker. will have to give this a lot of thought. by the way, for what it's worth, i think holding off on viewing the vote totals until the voting closes is a grand plan.

good luck to the entrants

I agree. Not that I think that GFSA'ers are mindless sheep who check who has the most votes then vote for that entry, but I think that's how it should be done.
Wow you guys have all outdone yourselves. That was brilliant.

My favourite two where:

Mixerboy, That really make me think of stone temple pilots who I would consider alternative and one of my favourites from a couple of years back.

Adrian, I am a huge fan of RATM and I think you hit the nail on the head and got that vibe, even the lyrical content was spot on.

But all four where brilliant. Well done guys, I really enjoyed all the tracks.
Whoa...great stuff this month gentlemen! :applause:

The first vote was easy, Mixerboy absolutely nailed it w/Alice in Brains.

The second one not so easy.

G-man - you've shown real progress in the challenges, production was real good, perhaps some polish needed on the drum sequencing. Good stuff!

Doc-phil - A Real Killer track, can't fault it all.

Adrian - I reckon I hold you to too high a standard (and perhaps too big a RATM fan :?) - the production/mix (for me - a amateur listener), missed something vs RATM - perhaps the rhythm guitar sounded too fizzy and vocals a bit removed from the overall mix (reverbed?). However the creative work carried the day & decided the second vote - the solo was pure Morello and the rap 2:08-2:22 was genius.

All take a bow - imho, you are all winners this month.

Thanks for the comments so far. My entry literally took an hour to do from start to finish so there was a lot left to polish, but sadly I didn't get the chance to refine it like I wanted. Oh well, maybe next time I won't procrastinate until the last minute as per usual ?

All the other entries were really really good.

Really liked Adrian's lyrics and RATM sound, pretty much spot on.

Mixerboy and Doc Phil's were nice and heavy brilliant stuff.

Gonna have to listen a few more times before I cast my votes ?
Sheesh, tough choice here. All entries were superb.

G-Man - every entry I hear from you is so vastly improved from your last in terms of production. Top marks for that. I think I would have enjoyed a tad more variety in the track though, but I think you did well trying to nail that Nirvana/Pixies feel.

Mixerboy - every element of your production was first class, and that track had my attention from beginning to end. However, I do hear a slight crackle in my right speaker at about 0:34, I'm not sure if there was a little bit of clipping creeping in every so often? That heavy riff was fantastic and loved the lead tone. The noodling was in my opinion perfect, it didn't sound unnecessary or unguided. What tuning were you using? Drop B?

Adrian - I think you captured the RATM sound perfectly. The vocals assisted you a lot, something which the other entrants didn't have the benefit of (I'm not marking you down for that!). I agree that the solo was very Tom Morello-ish.

Not sure if we're supposed to reveal our votes ? I think I will be hard-pressed to get any with the standard of composition and production exhibited here.

:yup: This ^^

This is how all previous comps should have been handled from day one . (imo / ymmv , etc )
If votes cast weren't displayed until the end , there would more than likely have been different winners/results , ..... especially in some previous 'close-call' comps .
Good decision there Adrian .
Only problem now is that any chance of a last minute sympathy vote is out of the question. Eina! ?
The standard of these tracks is seriously incredible! ? You guys have all really outdone yourselves and should be proud! And whats really great is that I feel like you all really nailed the sound you were going for, not just in composition but in production as well! 8) Really inspiring and I really really really have to take the time to enter the next one!
Wow what a tough choice! You guys really hit each sound you were aiming for and the recording was really impressive.
ok. man alive. what exceptional entries. that has to be said up front.

g-man: you nailed it spot on. i heard more pixies, personally, but that is definitely not a negative as far as i'm concerned. no such thing as too much pixies in my life. great track, nice recording...

mixerboy: awesome. no further words needed.

adrian: up to your usual high standards. great stuff. length - this may be the only factor counting against you, if i decide to be a pedant...

doc-phil: man. i love the track and, as a bonus, may have found a new band to add to my collection.

again, it is a challenge deciding who gets these two votes. but i think i have a pretty fair idea. no matter who comes out tops, though, you can definitely all be justifiably proud of your entries
dh|
Wow ! Loved every entry! I heard the Alice in Chains and RATM strongest. Not really aquatinted with Breaking Benjamin at all, but it appealed to me most.

Funny story causing me to abstain from voting though - realized I don't even have a tin ear.

Given the descriptions I could associate the bands, but thought I'd test my missus whom has what I knew was a fair ear for these things.

Sight unseen she picked every single one !!!!! All I told her was the challenge was to emulate an alternative band.

On G-Man's combo I did forewarn her it's a mix and she picked Nirvana then Pixies.

Anybody want to swap music gear for golf, bass fishing or tiddlywinks kit ?

You all nailed it. Congrats!

I must say though... Adrian - you've fast become the man to beat IMO. Excellent production/playing/recording. Too long for the comp, which will probably cost you, but otherwise...

No I know. I actually think its a bit unfair. I had just finished the track in time for the competition, so I thought I may as well submit it. I didn't actually do it for the comp though, I did it as I just love Rage so much. So I really hope it does count against me. I had an uber unfair advantage.

I will however listen to the tracks soon. I'm waiting for Telkom (don't hold your breath) to install my internet line.,
Hashtag-Amazeballz! ? These are four top notch entries. Well done guys, I'm having a real hard time picking two favourites.
Very keen to hear these! Just waiting for next month's bandwidth
