Hi there!
I've just returned to SA—Cape Town, Southern Peninsula—after 13 years overseas and hoping to play music with some people. I've been playing guitar since I was nine, which is a terrifying 40 years ago…
For loud stuff, these days, I play a Telecaster through an old Deluxe Reverb; for swampier blues I might swap the Tele for an old Höfner Senator with a nasty old pickup bolted on to the neck. I also play a Django-style Selmer copy, a Höfner President thinline XII, a couple more arbitrary acoustics and a tenor ukulele. I've got a 1960s Aria Diamond bass, but I'm not really a bassist. And I can kinda work my way around the neck of my old-school three-course bouzouki and tzouras. My blues harp is rusty, but I might work on that. As you might guess, my tastes in music are pretty wide-ranging, from Rebetika to Stax-Volt, from 60s psychedelia to 70s punk rock and plenty more besides.
Back in the day I played in clubs for a living (which is why I have too many guitars—it's not really GAS, honestly). These days I'm in the much happier position of just playing for fun.
Cheers,
Mike

I'll post pics when I have the guitar-hangers on the wall. Currently just the hero Tele and the DR are unpacked...

Hi Mike and welcome. A fine selection of instruments and a great amp (which era BTW? Blackface or silver?).
It's a bit slower 'round here on weekends, so don't worry about the response so far.

It's a 70s DR, but it had blackface cosmetics applied a long time ago... The wiring inside is a bit of a hybrid, but it sounds sweet!
I've been playing without effects for years, but I've recently been fooling around with some germanium transistors, building Rangemaster clones (with true bypass added) and so on, and I'm rather enjoying the results...

Hi Mike! Welcome! The Tele sounds interesting (so does the amp!). More, more!!! Pics too!! ?

Welcome. Cant wait to see pics. How good is your uke playing? We were toying of starting a uke orchestra at one stage but only had about 4 people interested.

Hi Don. My uke playing is actually quite OK. I've been playing 41 years now... ?
Actually, I bought the tenor uke to have a travel instrument that was easier to carry than a small guitar and more in tune past the fifth fret than the soprano uke I've had for, well, 41 years. I spend a lot of time up at the dusty end of the neck trying to arrange Django Reinhardt or Tom Verlaine solos for four-string re-entrant tuning (and learning a helluva lot about guitar playing, chords and scales while doing so).
But I can also strum/flail away in Hawaiian/Formby style if necessary, which is what I did when I was eight!
I'd be very interested in exploring a ukulele orchestra (or even a chamber group...).
Cheers,
Mike

I've just emerged blinking in the African sun. I probably need to get my bearings a little... ?
