Was a huge fan in the 70's .... Always loved that tone he got on his guitar ... And that velvety baritone voice .... I love to this day ... He had it all ... Wasn't just a great technical player but had style and a stage personality too

Hooray for Jimi

His music was certainly my greatest inspiration whilst learning the guitar.

Yesterday was a sad day for me remembering this.
43 years down the line and this phenomenal one of a kind human still has the ability give me goose flesh, and pull new fans.

Greatness is a mantle passed around way too flippantly nowadays, but there are few more deserving (in any sphere of life, not just music) of that moniker than Jimi.

I've often wondered what muso's who died young would have gone on to do if they didn't pass away in their prime - especially Jimi. And although I'm sadenned that he was taken prematurely and dissapointed that we will never hear where his genius might have lead him, I'm also a bit relieved.
There aren't any debates and opinions about how old Jimi was the real deal and new Jimi is a pop idol, like there is about Clapton. He never went into a weird sub genre of music that nobody takes seriously, ala Blackmore. He never turned into an a-hole, or an abusive spouse, or a drunk embaressment. But most importantly, he never grew old to be a sad shadow of who he once was, touring the nostalgia circuit. He will always be remembered as the Jimi I love and respect, and for that I am thankful.

Imagine (though impossible) what he'd be doing had he lived !!
