Hey guys

I would like to get some insight. I'm playing a strat loaded with texan specials, and I changed the bridge pickup to a JB Junior!
I like the specials, but I would rather go for something else (Little less twangy) seeing as my guitar is already really bright!

I want something smooth in the neck and something a littly more endy in the middle, I like Seymore, but anything goes really!

So hit me with a few suggestions!

Regards
If Texans are on the bright side, you don't have a lot of Strat pups left. Maybe rethink the single coils first?
Yeah - I was also thinking maybe a rails type pickup. Duncan Rails or DiMarzio Fasttracks. Otherwise Kinman Woodstocks.
Dimarzio and Seymores are my first choices, The thing is my strat is very bright, but the texans are bright asswell, being a little bit of an overkill!
Especially with the maple fretboard and neck! \

Any ideas specific to go for regarding the neck and middle pickup? something that would will a broad range with the JB? it can be a humbucker style, like the JB, I would get a Jazz but it doesn't come in strat size pickup (single coil humbucker)
Duncan: AII Pros, 5/2's, Antiquity II's, Vintage Rails, Vintage flats
          Kinman: Woodstocks
Dimarzio: BC-1, Fasttrack 2, Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2, Tone Zone
(or GFS AII's if you're on a budget for the whole set.)

The problem is that if you want more bass and mids for added warmth the pickups are usually going to be higher output.
This may be ok with the JB in the bridge as it could help balance them in positions 2 and 4

the pickups I listed are more focussed on mids and bass for added warmth

          unless you go custom shop.

My suggestion is get onto each website and listen to the clips and read the descriptions. Also check out youtube clips, demo's and reviews of the pickups (even if the quality is bad you can still get a basic idea of where they are tonally.)
Also get onto the Seymour Duncan forum and ask those guys.

personally i'd go AII Pro in the neck and one of the Dimarzio's in the middle (maybe the virtual vintage)
What pots are you using in your guitar and how high are you pickups set? I'd recommend you try lowering the treble side a bit more than the bass and possibly lowering the overall pickup heights as well as doing some amp EQing to see if you can't get them to sound as you'd like or at least tolerable, that way if you do decide you still want to change them at least you have something you are at least OK with while you wait for new pickups to arrive...
Seymour Duncan specifically do a set that balances with the JBjr.

FWIW it's called the Everything Axe Set - It's counterparts are the duckbucker and lil '59.

I'm gonna stop there cause rules and what not, just figured if the manufacturer groups em together that might be a good place to start ?

this is what I would suggest .....everying axe set ..... complements the jb jr

Strat too bright? (or any other guitar)?

Before you spend big bucks... check the cap in your guitar..

                  If it's a Fender , it's probably an .022...switch it for a .047...

                  if it's a .047...put in a .068...

I think you'll be surprised at the difference a capacitor can make...
I disagree with that 100%. 0.022 is too big already! Swap to 0.0047 and even when you turn your tone all the way down, it'll sound useable. 0.068 would shift a standard Strat's res freq to a couple of hundred hertz.

If it's too bright, turn down treble on your amp or use your tone control!

The real point of this thread is pickup matching, which has nothing to do with your tone cap anyway.
